Flour Bluff will have a new boys basketball coach next fall.
After one season P.J. Williams has announced his resignation and, pending board approval, South Texas veteran Jaime Boswell will succeed him at the school.
Boswell, who has a career record of 325-200, returns to the area after six years as the head coach of Class 6A San Angelo Central. Boswell had previous stops at Mathis and Sinton as well as Granger and Comanche.
In his one year at Flour Bluff, Williams led the Hornets to a 21-13 record, a second-place finish in 30-5A (14-4) and a trip to the area round of the playoffs.
The Hornets lost to eventual regional finalist Edinburg Vela and advanced to the Region IV Tournament in 2014 and 2015 under former head coach Robert Dodd.
Flour Bluff athletic director Chris Steinbruck said that Williams had resigned his post but only confirmed that Flour Bluff will take a name to the school board at a meeting scheduled for May 26.
The San Angelo Standard-Times reported Wednesday that Boswell had resigned to take the post with the Hornets
Boswell confirmed via text message that he would be accepting the position at Flour Bluff, pending board approval.
Boswell was named the Class 5A coach of the year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches after the 2011-12 season in which he led San Angelo Central to a 31-6 record and its first trip to the regional quarterfinals since 1963.
In 19 seasons, Boswell has led 15 teams to the playoffs, including regional tournament berths in Mathis (2000) and Sinton (2009).
Flour Bluff begins play in the new 11-team District 30-5A starting this fall.
