CFWB, do you wish they had instant replay on a certain football play a few years back? was it a fumble or was he down? I think umpires add to the game. Sure they are going to make mistakes. But I think 99.99% of them do their very best to get it right. I seriously doubt there is any cheating done by umpires. I don't think umps "cheating" is widespread at all, but it DOES happen. I've seen it happen on more than one occasion with guys that are just too emotional to even not make it obvious. One example that has been brought up in the past was the State semi-final game a few years ago where the home plate ump was so obviously against Calallen that immediately after the game was over (Calallen did manage to win in extra innings) the UIL sent the entire crew of umps home early and told them they would never be invited back again. True story. Getting a call right can't hurt the game and if it's as simple as FBfan says it would be to implement, I say do it as long as it DOESN'T AFFECT THE RHYTHM OF THE GAME. If I were to give it a lot of thought, I could see where the ball/strike thing could be a bit of a problem and maybe why it hasn't been implemented as of yet. Example: Runner at 2nd, 2 outs.....1 ball and 2 strikes on the hitter. Runner breaks on the pitch trying to steal 3rd. Pitch is called a strike for out #3...so the catcher doesn't even attempt a throw to 3rd....upon further review the pitch is changed to a ball. Uh oh.....what now? the catcher could have easily thrown out the runner at 3rd had he attempted to. Can't send the runner back and now we have a 2-2 count on the hitter. I'm sure there are plenty more examples of where a snap call needs to be made on ball/strikes. What I am talking about has no delay. The pitch tracker you see on tv is instantly displayed. Just as easy to send that signal to the umps wrist watch type reciver that has a red led for strike and green for ball. No need for a review delay.

Maybe even better yet......how about a light behind the catcher on the backstop for the fielders and another couple of lights on the out field fence for the catcher that instantly light up when a pitch is a strike?

If the system fails you simply revert to the current until the issue gets fixed but we have been watching games for quite a few years now without many problems displaying pitch tracker. The replay of the Rangers game will be on Fox Sports Southwest at 6:30. Watch it for a while. See how the pitch tracker is already available and instant in display. If you watch very long you will see pitches called wrong when we have the ability to get it right. Why would we want it not right? Makes no sense to me.

I'm not a big fan of the NBA, but it might be time to automate officiating in that league. Seeing that the Spurs get screwed over twice in the past week and the NBA so much admitting their errors, sealed the deal for me the NBA is beyond repairable as a serious professional sports league.

I don't ever watch NBA games. Too much traveling, no defense, lane violations etc. Its just turned into who can do a windmill dunk while wearing the prettiest shoes. I wouldn't pay $5 to watch the championship game from courtside seats.
