Cal 1-0 over Somerset. One game series. We are going to have step it up. Hate one game PO "series. " Ha! You caught my goof. Actually I think it's stuck in my head from an article in the Caller a few years ago calling the one gamer a "series." I think they were quoting a coach using it from a rival high school.

Cal playing another 1game series. The boys need to put some runs on the score board and the other coaches will think twice about the 1 game. I can't say I blame them on the strategy, I would do the same thing.

Not only losing to a one game playoff, but also having to go the Valley to play it. In my eyes that is losing two out of two flips. If the are not the home team, then that is losing all three flips. I cannot imagine this is what Chapman wanted for this round. The boys need to step up their run production and take some pressure off.

We are the visiting team, so we lost all three flips if that is how it went down. Moody also plays a one gamer against PSJA. They love them one gamers at Moody.

I find it hard to believe Cals #1 pitcher cannot win a one gamer for Calallen. You worry about the boys not being UP for the one game? Just maybe the other coach worries about his boys to not being motivated enough. Its as good as it gets Ace vs Ace! Put up or shutup!!

I've heard pros and cons about whether the format should go to one gamers or best of three. Those who advocate the one gamer point out once you get to Round Rock, it's win or go home. Others point out in the college and pro level, baseball playoffs have always been a multi game situation. I think as a team you have to prepare for both options and over the years the one gamer has ended many good teams season early. Actually I'd like to see the State Tourney set up like a NCAA regional as in a double elimination series. But with the new pitching rules, it will never happen. Heck we might even see more one gamers as a result.

Baseball is a series sport. One game does not provide a true test of the better of two teams. The hardest thing to do in sports is to solidly hit a round ball thrown at speed coming toward you with a round bat while that ball moves in another direction on one and sometimes two other planes. That difficulty is what makes a .400 hitter considered great. Now consider that equates to failure to get a hit most of the time. Bottom line is pitchers usually win the battle and can dominate in a game but they can't pitch three games in a row. Therefore the series is much more of a test of which TEAM is better.

It's baseball and anything can happen. One bad hop or one bad call can change the outcome. Much less likely for a hop or a call to change the outcome of a series. You know this.
