Baylor and Calallens Logan Verritt had a terrific aaa career but has had a little trouble finding a home in the Bigs. As I'm typing this he is a New York Met and as they are in the postseason I'll hopefully get see a little of him. He had probably the best pitching career in high school at Cal .18/0 senior, Won third title , scholly to Baylor . We've had a few folks right on the cusp from little old Oil Belt where Cal , TM and Robstown kids battle it out every summer , so here's hoping he sticks!

Tremendous pitcher. You could see how poised and talented he was. Hope he has a long and productive big league career. A couple of good appearances in the playoffs will do wonders for his reputation.

I think I read somewhere that he was left off of the postseason roster.

Just before I had posted I went the Mets official web site and he was listed on their. I guess the big question for him , will they want him to try out for next season or maybe somewhere else. I really thought with aaa , I believe he was mvp of that pacific league he was in . So tough to get in and stay...

Easier for pitchers than position players but still so few spots compared to those wanting one. The Dodgers never called.

I'm surprised he wasn't on the playoff roster. He'd been a pretty dependable arm out of the bullpen for the Mets. He even got a start in Denver when Matt Harvey was hurt and threw 7 innings of 1-run ball. Hopefully he can stick somewhere...always nice to have a local kid to follow.

I wondered why they left Verritt off the playoff roster but brought 42 year old Bartolo Colon? Until last night's game when that little, fat, old man (by baseball standards) with the Moe from the three stooges haircut still brought it at 92mph and fanned three Dodgers that were born around the same time he signed with the Indians in 1993.

Is Logan Verritt the first Calallen Wildcat to actually pitch in the big leagues? I know several others over the years have reached the minor league levels too. It's a tough twisting road to travel. Professional league baseball at the minor league level is a huge accomplishment, injuries and age sometimes play a roll in coming to the end of that road.

Travis Dunlap pitched for the Atlanta Braves before going back to the minors and eventually playing for the barracudas to close his career.. Warcat I thought of him too but I couldn't remember Travis ever actually playing at the MLB level. I'm thinking Logan is the first one. Baseball reference.com shows Travis Dunlap drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 52nd round of the 1989 MLB amateur draft right out of Calallen HS at 18 years old. It shows him playing for the Pulaski Braves from 1990-1991 in the rookie league. Then sent to the Idaho Falls Braves later that year. In 1992 he was sent to the Macon Braves in the A league and played there till 1994 when he came home to the Corpus Christi Barracudas in the independent league. I late 1994 he jumped up to his highest level with the Wilmington Blue Rocks A+ league and finished out his playing career in 1995 back with the Barracudas at 23 years old. Warcat didn't I see one on the wall of fame at TM too? From many years ago,but I have no idea what his name is. I'll have to look next time I'm at the school. But I was thinking I saw a picture of an ex-student and player in an Astros uniform on the wall.

Yeah there was a guy who played for the Astros in the late 70's early 80's from TM. I forgot his name as well. And back to travis, his Braves pitching time was during the training camp/preseason/exhibition games. So I guess that doesn't really count since it wasn't regular season time.

OK that explains why it's not listed under his credits. On the TM player there was actually two drafted out of TM high school. Richard Nesloney was drafted by the Astros in 1973 out of TM in the 16th round, then drafted again by the Phillies in the 1st round in 1975 out of Ranger college and then drafted the third time by the Red Sox in the 23rd round in 1977 were he played two years in A and A- baseball for the Winston-Salem Red Sox and the Elmira Pioneers. The other player on the TM wall is a guy by the name of Cliff Davis who went to A&M and was drafted by the Astros I believe, but what I find is that he ended up being the field coordinator for the Astros organization in the minor leagues. I can't find anything on his playing days. Interesting.
