As a bit of comedy it'd be funny if Waxahachie #2's mascot was the cowboys... then when they played it'd be Cowboys vs Indians 🤣🤣🤣 Oh yea. Like San Antonio McCollum vs San Antonio Harlandale - the Frontier Bowl. Oh man I forgot they had that there!! I remember when SA Sam Houston changed from the Cherokees to Hurricanes... I'm surprised they haven't forced Harlandale to do similar.... they tried that at TM and admin told them to stick their peace pipe where the sun don't shine and smoke it...

7 more high schools were approved last Saturday! Liberty Hill as well, but that one was already approved and they didn't get enough money the first time. As a bit of comedy it'd be funny if Waxahachie #2's mascot was the cowboys... then when they played it'd be Cowboys vs Indians 🤣🤣🤣 They are supposed to end up with 4-5 high schools at build-out. I'd like to see the Indian theme kept with Braves, Warriors, Chiefs, and Scouts.

Kinda like Gonzales, Shiner, Port Neches-Groves. Too much community support to change.

I have Western Cherokee, Comanche, and Apache bloodlines in me. My mom was 1/4 Cherokee. My dad is 1/4 Comanche, 1/6 Cherokee, and 1/6 Apache. I have never been offended by the native American names in sports. Yes, I will say "redskins" is different, but all these others to me are all good.

Rider and Hirschi live on as middle schools. Old High gets screwed. And Coyotes gets dropped. There was a late push to have Legacy's mascot be the Coyotes, but it failed. Also, the school board would rather rename Memorial Stadium in order to name the west school Memorial. They could've just named the school Heritage, which I think sounds better anyway. Legacy High, Heritage High, and Memorial Stadium (or Veterans Memorial Stadium, as there is a push to honor the vets). Legacy Legends & Heritage Heroes and call it a day (since they want to be generic!). 3 schools to 2 - Will both Memorial and Legacy start with 4 grades and at 5A-? ? Just read an article about Prosper ISD breaking ground on High School #4. It will be named Richland and be called the Raiders and will open in two years. Don't know why it's being named Richland, but the land they are all building on used to be cornfields, cotton fields, and wheat fields.

Thanks for the update.
I’m not thrilled with this one. We don’t really need another Richland HS around here. If that name had to be chosen, Richland Ravens would have stayed with the bird theme (Walnut Grove shouldn’t have ditched it either). Owls, Orioles, Falcons, and Blue Jays are all easy, solid choices to stay with that theme. Oh well.
I do like how the colors and mascot are made clear ahead of time. I don’t like how it appears the community was not involved in the choices.

Oddly enough, there is a petition going now by a large group of Natives insisting Washington rename the team the Redskins again or else they'll start a boycott.

I'm curious what Austin ISD will do with the plans for a new HS now. They already spent close to $30 million a few years ago on the land. But with enrollment dropping post-Covid, is there going to be a need for it in a few years?

I saw that yesterday... my oldest daughter is now a Washington fan because her boyfriend is a Washington fan... she has always been a Pats fan until she met him.

This was ridiculous when it happened and even the native americans they polled them. 90% stated at the time they took no offense to the team name! Just another instance of this country bowing down to the LOUD and crying minority opinion!

Many of your smaller universities were forced to get rid of their Native American mascots, while others. kept them. Example right off the bat was the University of North Dakota giving up the Fighting Sioux while Florida State got to keep the Seminole. Both tribes are tied to their respective regions for centuries and they were not represented via logos, etc with cartoon character like mascots and many of the tribes were all for UND keeping it. But we know who got to keep theirs and who was deemed offensive by the National Communists Against Athletics.

Arlington State University Rebels became UT Arlington and had to give up their Rebel name and Confederate Flag. UT Arlington are now the Mavericks and no longer field a Football team. When I went to school there they had a football team and stadium on campus.

But we know who got to keep theirs and who was deemed offensive by the National Communists Against Athletics. Part of FSU getting to keep their name was because the Seminole tribe came to their defense and told the Lipan Indians who are the ones driving this whole nonsense, to pound sand. They actually donated the authentic Seminole wardrobe for their mascot and all. The Seminole Reservation in South Florida even discusses their relationship with FSU. They consider it an honor that they want to be Seminoles too. I wish the Sioux and other tribes would stand up to those bullies that keep the Native names and tell them to stop getting into everyone else's business just because the Lipan don't sound like an intimidating mascot, they're jealous of all these others...
