Re: Refugio vs Yoakum - Scrimmage 2

Well Refugio called it with 20 plays left to run about to score bc of the fights.... Worst sportsmanship I have ever seen in my life from yoakum... And previous years yoakum has been a class act... Yoakum finished running their offense plays and ball went back to Refugio up 2 to 1 with Refugio inside the 10 about to score ... So yoakum was through for the night and it only coulda got worse.. Refugio was 1st and 10 inside the 15... Then four fights broke out back to back to back to back... So herring called it and Refugio stands were about to come unglued over the late hits and penalties... If u doubt that I'm being one sided I beg someone to post the scrimmage footage.. Unbelievable bad sportsmanship... I will say yoakum had a good team with talent and the qb they had was as advertised... But honestly woulda ended up about 5-1 Refugio up before the fights... Refugios Jv won 5 to 1 for Yoakum, really it was Jv 3 to 1 Yoakum. Refugio Fresh 2 to 0 for Yoakum.

I was not on the field, so I do not know what was going on, but there were 4 unsportmanlike conduct penalties called on Yoakum. The two teams were pretty evenly matched. I do believe Refugio would have scored as they were moving the ball easily on Yoakum when the scrimmage was called. User avatar

So that kid had it out for the RB .. you could see him trying to get to him and then three plays later he pretty much ed tackled him and started to hit him and the RB wasn't even carrying the ball...lol I think the refugio kids held it together the best they could minus a player ... Yoakum coaches were patting the kids on the back after they would start something.... not cool .. Overall a good game and you could see Yoakum wearing down at the end Refugio s conditioning is superb
Yes, I think Yoakum's coaching staff had a lot to do with it. They were chest bumping their players, really trying to pump them up. It just seemed like they wanted their players to mix it up with Refugio players. It just seemed to be extreme. The Refugio running back always lowers his head like that and delivers a blow when he is about to be tackled. It's a legal play, but I would rather see him keep his head up and deliver the blow with his shoulder. I'm afraid he is going to get hurt, lowering his head. Like I said before, I felt the officials did a great job. Yoakum's QB has great escapability when he has to scramble. I really was not impressed with his passing ability. The only pass he really ever completed were screen passes to the wide-out. I thought Refugio looked pretty good on both sides of the ball. I felt like they were pretty bland on offense, maybe not wanting to show a whole lot before the regular season or district. Defense looked good. They are playing a lot of different players right now, trying to settle on the right mix, I guess. Refugio is the king of the 'old schools' as it is the only program in the state that has averaged greater than 9 wins a year, less than 3 losses per year, and played more than 11.5 games per season on average over the entire 57 year span.
