I know it's a little early but I do have some news...
During softball season this year (Yes, the boys play slow pitch softball instead of baseball at NA.) our starting QB blew out his knee and will be sidelined for next season. My son has been penciled in as the potential new QB for next season. I have started working with him in the backyard. He will also be going to camp at Victoria West this summer. He is pretty pumped about the opportunity.

Nazareth Academy is a private school that normally feeds into St Joe High School in Victoria. My son, however, will be attending Victoria West in 2 years. He is entering the 8th grade next school year at NA.

We scored 5 total TDs to their 1.
Setup was weird. We alternated running 10 plays from the 40 each time and then drove from the 30 twice (10 plays). Hope that makes sense.
TD #1 - Our tailback broke one and ran in to the back of his blocker and the blocker fell down. The "ref" blew the play dead thinking the kid that fell was the ball carrier. He would have scored as their was no one in front of him.
TD #2 - Next play, another tailback TD. He was pissed from the play before.
TD #3 - Tailback TD #3 - Kid had about 200 yards rushing and 3 TDs in limited action. He rested the rest of the scrimmage.
TD #4 - Our QB (my son) broke a QB sneak and dragged a couple of LBs for 10 yards or so and when he finally got free and in the open field, the "ref" blew it dead again saying we are trying to protect the QBs.
TD #5 - Late in the scrimmage we are subbing left and right to see if anything clicks. We threw a 7th grader who has some size and speed but has trouble remembering plays, listening, etc. in at tailback. First carry, 60 yard TD on a dive play. Kid saw the hole, slid to it and exploded through basically untouched for the TD. A very pleasant surprise.
Their TD came against our subs late.
My son had a rough day passing the ball, but made up for it in other places. He was 1-6 for 15 yards and threw an INT. His arm was hit on the INT and it went straight up into the air like a punt. He ran the ball 6 times for about 100 yards. This includes the 60 yard QB sneak that was blown dead. He also had 3 sacks on defense and numerous tackles.

Nazareth Academy 30 Shiner St Ludmilla 14
Game was not that close. we gave up 1 long TD run and the 2nd TD was scored on our 6th graders late in the game. #28 for our team scored 4 TDs all over 60 yards including 1 for 88. He had close to 300 yards rushing on maybe 10 carries. Incredible game. My son ran the ball 5 times and gained around 25 yards. No passes. Our 6th graders and subs played most of the 3rd and the 4th quarter.

Nazareth Academy 1-0 Our Lady of Victory 1-0 Hallettsville Sacred Heart 0-1 Shiner St. Ludmilla 0-1
Other games this week.

If he wants to continue to play QB do everything you can to start to develop him now. Camps etc..... Victoria isn't noted for its QB play.... Could use some

Honestly, he is much happier (and better) on defense.
We also moved him to fullback to take some pressure of our tailback. He is a good blocker and averages about 5 yards a carry on basic dives up the middle. We pretty much use him as a short yardage back. He loves it. Loves the contact. In last nights game he was lead blocking on a sweep and pancaked 2 guys. Looked like that scene in Waterboy when they put Bobby in to block.

Just a quick update. This group of boys went on to win the District Championship in basketball. They also won the 1 soccer tournament for the year and killed it in track. We started softball season this week and are looking to to take both tournaments. Great group of athletes. They will all be at St. Joe next year (including my son) and there are high hopes for them in the next few years. Hopefully they can all stay healthy.
