So last night in my sons football game my players repeatedly came off the filed complaining about getting punched by the offensive lineman from the other team. I normally would not think much of it, but it was 7 or 8 different kinds that complained. After the game, one of the parents complained to the other team's coach and a really heated discussion followed.
This morning, myself and my fellow coaches received an email apology from the other teams coach about the argument. In his email, he said that the reason that it may seem like his players are punching kids is because they are blocking how they have been taught by the coaching staff. He called it the "fist and forearm technique."
Now I have been playing and coaching football for most of my life and I have never heard of this.
Anyone ever heard of this?

Nope Never heard of this.
I know the D linemen are taught how to break a hold on them by bringing their arms down...or up in a hard, swift motion though.

Fist and Forearm technique huh?? Last I checked on my handy dandy bs-o-meter, that scores a 10 of 10 rating. Its called a personal foul. The only use for and legitimate excuse for using a fist in football is when attempting to punch a ball loose IMO. Even that can be abused... I'd ask the coach for reference material on this so called technique. If he cant provide a single legit reference the THSCA would be getting a formal complaint signed by each kids parents seeking clarification. I call bull.

Back in the day as O line man we was taught to lift the d line man between his arms under the shoulder pads to get him off balance.

Back in the day as O line man we was taught to lift the d line man between his arms under the shoulder pads to get him off balance. This is what I was taught and what I teach to my OL as well. Get low, fire out, open palms hard to the chest, and chop your feet to drive. I call it "punch and drive."
