Well it's that special time of year when rivalry week rolls around and Seguin and New Braunfels tangle in the annual Guadalupe River Bowl. Both teams will be dragging in a hefty series record into Matador Stadium on Friday night. New Braunfels leads the series 59-36-3 in what is billed as the state's longest running matchup in HS football.
Seguin escaped 5A Del Valle last week with a 35-34 win while the Unicorns struggled on both sides of the ball, falling to Boerne Champion 27-10.
Note: both Champion and Seguin tied in 2012 for the 4th playoff spot in 27-4A competition but Seguin lost out to the Chargers on a tiebreaker, leaving the Matadors sitting at home come playoff time.

DelValle should be a very good program with a good staff and support, BUT they will not fork over the $$$ or make the MS programs submit to HS control. The HS runs spread, but MS' do their own thing, which includes haveing QBs that can't pass or run and never passing in games. They have 2800 kids and good talent. They just brought in Burton from Houston and hopefully he can turn things around. They do make playoffs, but that is because the 4th spot in 15-5A is open after Westlake, Lake Travis abd Bowie get their spots.

This should be a closer game than most years but I'll go with NB.
Dtrain, you do understans this is the NB/Seguin thread, not DV, right?

Thanks for the insight on Del Valle. BTW, that schools is growing like a weed; do they have any plans of building out a 2nd high school? As far as how they manage their MS, it seems like you are right. DV wont be able to make make the jump to the next level until they can streamline their program a bit more.
And thanks for the vote of confidence Clemensbuff!

I appreciate the fact that NB found it in them to battle back from 31-17 to force overtime.
Seguin prevails 38-31.
NBs offense has come a long way in a week, although interceptions were an issue. Both teams had turnovers.
