I don't know what the posts were but we did have a kid in 2008 that had 4.2 speed. Dion Hill. Hand held by a coach, or legit time from a college camp or elsewhere? I am guessing if this kid was truly 4.2, he ran track or played WR at a major D1 school??? The reason I'm asking is that is literally world class speed, especially for a high schooler! 4.5 is fast 4.4 is DAMN FAST 4.3 is burning 4.2 is scarce as hell at the college leve, much less the HS level. I'd bet fewer than 5 kids in the state of TX have legit 4.2 speed........even high 4.2s! Fewer than 5 kids in the state of Texas? There are fewer than 5 players in the last eight years who have run a sub-4.3 40 at the NFL combine. Chris Johnson (4.24), Marquise Goodwin (4.27), Jacoby Ford (4.28), Demarcus Van Dyke (4.28)... and that's it. You can count the number of guys in the NFL with that kind of speed on one hand. At last year's combine there were 11 players who ran under a 4.4. So, yeah, that kind of speed is... rare (and yes, I know that not every player goes through the NFL combine.) Which is why I find some of the 40 times you see in DCTF, Rivals, etc. unreliable. There are plenty of ways to cook the 40 times (for example, coach is late on starting the stopwatch, or having the guy run a 38-yard dash.)

Deion ran a 4.21 at the NFL combine back in '89... and I think that was the fastest ever. Sub-4.2 is almost unheard of. This guy estimated that Usain Bolt would run the 40 in around 4.22: www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=582

Did you know that a few years ago Darrell Green celebrated his 50th birthday by running a 4.3 in the 40?

I can't remember who it was but they asked Deion how it felt to know his record was broken, and he joked about it some.

And I can also tell you that not one of the state's fastest kids you listed above has anything close to 4.2 speed when converting these 100m times. I found this quote in an article I just read........ Kansas City (Kan.) Schlagle coach Steve Szczygiel, who coached Maurice Greene in high school said his fastest 40-yard dash time was around 4.39 seconds.

I know the actual number of legit 4.2 kids in HS in TX is probably 1, and maybe 0 right now! Our RB is FAST and has been clocked numberous times in the mid to upper 4.3s. The only time he's been caught on a break away run in 2 1/2 years on varsity football was last year when Fulks from Katy caught him and both these kids made the 5a 100m finals in 2011 & 2012! My point is that both these two kids are top 10 in 5a in the state and I know Stockton is not 4.2 and probably neither is Fulks!

But then he probably would have run the 40 faster at his peak -- he didn't set the world record in the 100m until 1999 (when he was 24 or 25.)

If I had to guess I think there are quite a few smaller built sprinters that can beat Bolt consistently in the 40. He is not known for getting out of the blocks fast at all.

True -- but could he if, hypothetically, he were only running 40 yards instead of 100 meters?
