Tivy offense still fine-tuning as Antlers have final scrimmage By James LaCombe Sports Editor NEW BRAUNFELS — The second preseason scrimmage for the Tivy Antlers looked a lot like their first as the football team faced off against the New Braunfels Unicorns in preparation for the beginning of the regular season the following week. On offense, there were glimpses of what could be a high-powered offense, but the Antlers still had a ways to go in terms of consistency and taking care of the football, head coach David Jones said. For example, the Antlers ended their simulated half against the Unicorns with a 90-yard run by Cade Dyal. “That was exciting to watch,” Jones said. “He broke the run right up the middle and scored the touchdown untouched.” However, in another series, Tivy’s defense snagged a turnover only to have the offense give the ball right back. “Offensively, we turned the ball over too many times,” Jones said. “We weren’t real consistent, but we showed a few signs that we could play well.” Also, like last week, the defense shined. The unit played with aggression at a high speed, and forced multiple turnovers from their opponents. “We intercepted a couple, picked up a fumble,” Jones said. “Overall, defensively, we ran around pretty well. We did a good job pursuing the ball.” The Antlers will keep working on further fine-tuning their strengths and learning to reduce their mistakes on the Antler Stadium practice field starting today (Saturday). “We’re going to work tomorrow,” Jones said. “We’ll watch the film. We’ll lift and run. We just have to get more consistent, and work on the little bitty things that are messing things up. So, (we’ll work on) consistency on offense, just making sure we execute what we need to execute and take care of the football.

I appreciate the posting of the article. Looks like Tivy is morphing into a defensive juggernaut.
As for NB, the numerous 4 and outs are concerning. I guess there is always room for improvement. Bottom line is that the Unicorns are 0-0 right now. So glad Week 0 is just around the corner. Good luck to Tivy this season!

I was at the scrimmage on friday night and both teams played hard. But both teams have alot of work to do to get better. Tivy biggest concern is getting healthy and better OL protection. On the defensive side of the ball just keep playing hard. Good luck to the Unicorns.

Good luck to the Unicorns, as well. Thanks Buddha....I've moved away from Kerrville. Your posts will help me stay aware of how they are developing. I live in the SA area and hope to catch most of the games Read more: texas4asports.com/post/82796/quote/3037#ixzz2cwPoACxA

TFND, great to see you posting again.
I am hoping Tivy gets healthy in a hurry on the offensive side. Also, hearing that the D is looking good this early in the year is very encouraging. If the Antlers can get healthy and stay that way, it could be a very good year in K-town.
Very much looking forward to seeing Tivy Thur, 9/12 at Lehnhoff Stadium. Should be a good game again this year and nothing like last years ballgame.

I hope we can get healthy Clemensbuff. We will need everyone of our guys to play with Madison and Steele. I'm worried about that big Dline you guy's have, they will give our offense alot of trouble.

I hope you guys are healthy as well. Yes, we are big up front....on both sides. D line will average about 250-255 and O line just shy of 300. We've got 3 - 300 pounders on the O-line and they are suprisingly mobile for their size. Nasty attitudes if you know what I mean. They like doing the dirty work for sure. We are also very deep on the D line. The 2s are not as big but will average about 235 or so and very, very athletic. Bookend DE #2s at about 6'2" and 220 that are quick. This will help us against teams with dominant O lines to stay fresh. The team looked fast, very fast last Friday in scrimmage. Stockton only got one touch but you could see the explosiveness in him. Our #2 RB is a soph and he is about 180 lbs with great speed. He took one to the house 65 yards Friday. Also have several other very capable RBs including a couple of beasts at about 215-220 lbs. New QB is going to surprise some people. Tremendous athlete with good arm and is very accurate. He wears #10 like TA did and reminds us a lot of TA at that age with more accuracy and polish at this point. Offense should be very explosive if they get clicking. I look for a pretty high scoring game with the antlers much like 2010!

Yall might want to see if the Dallas cowboys want to play you guys with all that size. LOL.. I think our offense will have trouble against your defense. Our best weapon most likely will not play against you guy and he did very well this summer at some camps going against 2 of yalls DB's. The hardest part about playing teams like Steele is whenever you guys substitute there is no drop off. The depth is what kills 4a teams against big 5a programs.

I am sad and disappointed to hear he most likely won't play. But in the grand picture of things to come........better he not play and get fully healed up......he's gotta lot of football left to play! I completely agree about what you are saying with the depth and totally agree that is the significant difference between the two classifications. I've ALWAYS said that the top 4a teams in the state can hang with ANYONE, and I fully believe that! LOL on the size comment. Yes, this is by far the biggest team we've put on the field. Will it = winning the region and beyond we'll see. Bigger is not always better.......unless you are faster at the same time and then it counts big time. Tell him to keep his head up and his arsh working hard! I'd love to see him come back and lead Tivy to the promise land. Hell, we can share busses this year! When yall come through town we are only 5 minutes off 35 and we can convoy!!! That would be something for sure and I don't believe for a minute it is out of the question!

I appreciate the compliments, he is working his as_! off to get back. He wants to play bad against Madison and Steele but even if he is ready the coach told him that they will probaly hold him out until district. I would love to see yall take home another trophy. We will try our best, but it will be a big mountain to climb. Good luck against Madison and do me a favor beat them up for us. LOL!!

LOL Yes, it is a huge mountain to climb but Tivy can and will get it done IMO. You guys have been very, very close already....its only a matter of time. We were very fortunate in 2010 to have stayed healthy and had a group of kids that took the losses you guys and Madison handed us and went to work and got better every week. It is almost like a perfect storm for it all to come together. I still believe in 2010 if Tivy could have just went D2 instead of D1 both 4a trophies would have come home to R4!!!
