FB''s defense kept them in the game. Watched Carroll last night and their defense is better than King's but King's offense is better than Carroll's. Several bonehead offensive plays by FB kept King in the game and gave them 10 pts. FB's has got to quit running that deep drop back hand off. Brewer will get better every game. He was amped up and over threw some guys. I didn't see a single dropped ball by FB. Turnovers too many by both teams. Very hard hitting game by both teams. As they say a win is a win. By the way, big night for FB's kicker/punter.

I wish Flour Bluff would just take what is given to them, not try to get tricky, and let the talents of their players win the game. The coaches don't have to out trick the other team's coaches. The players are good enough to win the game on their own. The coaches should not feel any pressure to call a tricky play that turns a game around.

I think.....it's only a trick play if you run it like........twice a year.......not every game. Brewer is a big boy and can take a hit. I really like that look in pass. Yes I agree with you but it appeared the coaches wanted to throw even if they had open running ahead. Oh well....first game this season for them too.

Flour Bluff So QB suffered some first game jitters in his passing with some overthrows that should have gone for six. Not concerned as overall played well even when pressured and we have already seen the capabilities. Nice to have the first one out of the way with a W and to have the next game in the friendly confines of Hornet Stadium. Game wise as could be expected some mistakes in a week 0 game. Give King credit also their senior QB Bronze Jackson is a warrior and he played like it tonight. The FB defense should get the game ball tonight.

I'm going to be very honest. Flour Bluff won and I think they were the better team. But the hornets were very fortunate that Bronze Jackson was obviously hurt. Had he been healthy I think King wins this one. Andrus almost out coached himself in this one. Just my opinion

FB incoming in 3,2,1.... etg83 knows his football and is correct in that 10 of Kings points were IMO from head scratcher decisions. On the other hand having watched this staff for years it is not unexpected to see things in non district games, especially one and two that look more like practice for later use or never call that again stuff.

Crabsfan there is no need for anyone from Flour Bluff to dump on me. I'm a Bluff fan with two sons playing for them. I don't see any reason to sugarcoat what I saw. Like I said its just my opinion on what I saw. I love football and will never sunshine pump. It will always show up on the field anyway. With that said, go Bluff! 10-0 IS THE MISSION!

From the Caller Times:
CORPUS CHRISTI — Flour Bluff might have lost a few familiar faces from its defense, but the unit didn’t lose any of its sting.
The Hornets intercepted King’s Bronze Jackson twice in the fourth quarter and forced a turnover on downs to preserve their lead and earn a 24-20 victory Friday night at Buccaneer Stadium.
“Right now our D is ahead of our O,” Flour Bluff coach Darrell Andrus said. “I’ve got a tough team that will compete to the end, overcome adversity, has a lot of talent, we just know we still have a long ways to go, but it’s a big win here tonight.”
Bluff’s Aaron Dilworth pulled down both fourth-quarter interceptions, the first of which he returned to the King 12-yard line to set up a two-play scoring drive capped by a Charles Gaines 1-yard rumble for the final go-ahead score.
“Aaron’s a kid who has a big role offensively, but this year we have that issue with (University of Texas-committed cornerback) Jalen Campbell getting hurt,” Andrus said. “We needed Aaron to step up and tonight he definitely did that.”
Faced with fourth and 3 at the King 38-yard line with 1:41 to spare and one timeout left on either side, the Hornets (1-0) elected to go for it and converted a 7-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Cody Brewer to tight end Duncan Tugman to ice the game.
Bluff’s defense held King to 190 yards of offense, causing enough havoc in the Mustangs’ passing game to limit Jackson’s passing to 8 of 22 for 50 yards.
“You hate to lose those games,” King coach Eddie Hesseltine said. “We had our opportunities, but didn’t punch it in. We’ve got to get better, that’s all I can say.”
That’s not to say the Mustangs (0-1) were entirely impotent. For much of the game, they held the lead.
King jumped on an early fumble when Brewer tripped and lost control of the ball on a handoff. The Mustangs took over at their own 46 and used a mix of runs and passes to drive 38 yards in eight plays, capping the drive with a 26-yard Justin Aminzadeh field goal for a 3-0 lead.
Flour Bluff answered by driving 66 yards in a seven-play, two-and-a-half minute drive that was capped by a game-tying 19-yard field goal by Kevin Reid.
Both defenses asserted themselves after that, keeping the game even until Jackson got involved in the running game. Taking advantage of strong field position at the Flour Bluff 35, the Mustangs protected the ball by having Jackson carry it four times in a row, eventually reaching the end zone with a 3-yard go-ahead Kevin Dawson touchdown run.
Again, the Hornets answered. This time driving 75 yards in a nine-play drive that took 3:29 off the clock. Not satisfied with tying the game, Flour Bluff went for two and got it with a pass from Brewer to Dilworth to take a 11-10 lead.
Flour Bluff held its lead until late in the second quarter when, punting from deep within its own territory, the Hornets decided to get cute and had Brewer punt from the shotgun. The kick went off the side of his foot and traveled only 9 yards before bouncing right into the arms of King’s Kendill West, who returned it to the 14-yard line. With only 65 seconds to spare and no timeouts on hand, Jackson passed and rushed his way to the end zone, punching it in from 3 yards out to give the Mustangs a 17-11 halftime lead.
Flour Bluff’s Adrian Hynson made his presence known in the second half by returning an early King punt 64 yards to the Mustangs’ 16. Riding the momentum of the return, the Hornets needed just one play to score — a perfectly blocked 16-yard Kevin Dewitt scamper. The Hornets’ 2-point conversion attempt failed, deadlocking the game at 17.
King reclaimed the lead one drive later with Aminzadeh’s second field goal of the game, this time from 28 yards out, that gave the Mustangs a 20-17 advantage.
But then the fourth quarter arrived, and Flour Bluff’s defense put a stranglehold on the outcome.
