Austin American Statesman (Hinted) and tipped their hand with tomorrows #2 team announcement. Next up Ronald Regan was president during this school's last "playoff-less" season. Since Cedar Park wasn't even created until the end of the Clinton era... 1997, That makes the last two teams easy to figure out. So with that in mind, here's the AAS Central Texas top 10 Preseason Power Poll teams: #1 - Cedar Park (4a) #2 - Austin Westlake (5a) #3 - Leander (4a) #4 - Lake Travis (5a) #5 - Pflugerville Hendrickson (5a) #6 - Round Rock Westwood (5a) #7 - Elgin (4a) #8 - Georgetown (4a) #9 - Thorndale (1a) <== This one is to just list a lower classification becuase there's no way they'd beat Manor or many teams above 3a 10 - Manor (4a) To view all the teams and watch player interviews with Danny Davis, Power Poll Link:Oh and #1 & #2 face off next Friday night August 30th in Week 0! LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE!

Why would you bother to rank teams like that. You are better off making two different polls like they do during the season. Not that polls mean anything, but it just makes them lose credibility. I know they are trying to keep readers in the smaller towns, but come on. Vandergrift, Rouse, Vista Ridge, Pflugerville and many other teams are deserving.

Eh, I think the gap between the top teams in lower classifications and your average 4A team isn't as great as you might think. A good 4A or 5A team would have no trouble handling a team like East Bernard, but East Bernard would probably be competitive against average (or bad) teams in the upper classifications. That said... Thorndale isn't really a "top" 1A team at all, so yeah, it seems ludicrous. Don't know why the Statesman would be bothering with it anyway... usually the small-town paper's coverage of the local team is better than the weekly blurb that the big-city paper prints up.
