He told you why in his reply. He'd rather stay closer to home. Those teams you mention would definitely be a test, but I don't see how Judson + Midway + Temple is significantly better than Westlake + Lake Travis + Bowie. yeah, since when are high school games all about matchups? I'd much rather play local rivals myself.

That goes without question during the district races!

Yeah, I don't understand why we haven't played Ryan since 2009. That's pretty ridiculous. The constant district shuffling gets annoying though. It's a lot harder to develop rivalries when other schools are constantly shuffling in and out of your district. Guyer had a budding rivalry with Southlake Carroll but then that gets cut off for at least two years; now, we have Wichita Falls Rider for two years and that's probably going to get cut off as well.

Tom, I was surprised that Guyer and SLC didn't try and set up a home & away 2 year non-district series for 2012 & 13 when they ended up in different districts. That would have been a hell of a game for sure and would have helped both squads get better for the playoffs. Also, I'd bet that the 'powers that be' within the school district did not let the two head coaches continue the rivalry between Ryan and Guyer. Some do not like to see these 'neighbors' getting all wound up over a football game. Me on the other hand think that it is good for all provided both teams are fairly equal so that the games don't end up lopsided in beatdowns. In your case there, I think if Guyer and Ryan had played these last two years.....Ryan would have taken a couple of serious a** whoopins!

Now, as far as these two games this year for CP. I think the T-Wolves will lay a beat down on Cooper but the WL game should be a dandy. I have to think it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes and who's offense is futher along early in the year. In that case I'd have to go with WL in a tight one due to having a stud D1 QB running their show but I'd not be a bit surprised to see CP get the W!

True, though as far as I can tell Guyer and Ryan not playing each other has more to do with the coaching staffs than anyone in the district office. I can see the argument both ways though. A Guyer-Ryan game would be almost guaranteed to be close to a sellout and both schools would save a bit on travel. Granted, I can see why we didn't play Denton High when they weren't in our district as that game hasn't been competitive since 2007 or so. At the same time, though, I don't have too many complaints about our non-district schedule. Cedar Hill is a bit of a haul but that's a competitive game and they've been a pretty regular feature on the Guyer schedule lately. Colleyville Heritage and Flower Mound Marcus haven't been, but given their proximity Guyer and Marcus SHOULD be rivals and (at least in 2012) Heritage was competitive and relatively nearby. Of course, we're apparently playing Allen in non-district in 2014.
