Will they open 0-2 vs very good 5A teams again? I think they will, but it doesn't matter, just like it didn't last year.

I'm thinking 1-1. CP wants Westlake bad.. but to be honest, that's one long roadtrip up to Abilene Cooper. The main reason they were 0-2 last year was the fact that they were breaking in a new QB and they lost two other starters on offense before that game. This year that Offense is loaded and the "D" is filling in the graduating holes nicely. Westlake is their opening Home game week 0!

If you have the kind of kids that take it 'personal' and put their butts in gear and nose down to the grindstone, good things can come from early losses!

I believe it teaches a team that they Can be beat. Non-District is the best time for this to happen. But the bottom line is making the playoffs. Teams that go undefeated MAY get a little superiority(sp) complex and take a fall in the play-offs.

Hey Hey, Clemensbuff & Tom, Hope you had a great Summer! I'm getting ready to ship my daughter off to College this week, then I can take a closer look at this year's CP team. This year will be so much more different, in that I believe we'll be more of a scoring machine, passing much more than in previous years. When I say pass more, I don't mean going from 15 to 20 passes vs 30 to 45 runs... but more like 25-35 or even more passes per game. Nate Grim can throw the rock! I know that "D" will be able to do their thing, but it won't be the "D" of years past where they avg. less than 14 points a game scored against them. I could be surprised by the "D" this year, but this team will be more "O" than "D" team when facing them!

The flipside of that is that when you have a "0" in the loss column, especially late in the year, I think some teams are intimidated. They go in thinking they can't hang. Same goes for a #1 ranking.

I never really thought of it that way. I've always thought that big 0 in the loss column put an even bigger target on your back at times. But yes, I can see it both ways.

It depends on who you're playing, I guess. A team like, say, Wichita Falls Rider or Amarillo? Sure, big ol' target on your back. A team like Azle? I'm no expert, but they looked like they had that deer-in-the-headlights look, and before you know it it's 28-0. And that was a playoff team! (Not that Guyer was #1 in the state or had a 0 in the loss column at any time after Week 0, but there's still an intimidation factor.)

When will Cedar Park and Bowie ever play? Seems like a natural matchup that should happen.

I would much rather trade Home games closer to Cedar Park and not spend so much time and effort in the travel. No need to go to Abilene to find good competition when there is lots of it in your own back yard in Austin... at least at the 5a level. I'd like to see us play Bowie, & Lake Travis rather than Abilene Cooper & Harker Heights. That would give us Westlake, Bowie, Lake Travis, and Westwood. All 5a and most likely all playoff bound. That's how you get ready to play within District 25 4a!

CP will be running the Hill Country version of the Oregon Ducks' offense. That would give you 3 from the weak Austin district. Why don't you play Steele, Judson, Temple and Midway. I don't think Bowie is on CP's level, especially a school with near 3000 kids.

He told you why in his reply. He'd rather stay closer to home. Those teams you mention would definitely be a test, but I don't see how Judson + Midway + Temple is significantly better than Westlake + Lake Travis + Bowie.

The travel time and expenses would go up and fan participation would go down due to the distance to the games. Hey, I'm being a Realist not a Sadist... It's not that I'm thinking CP is that good and they can beat teams like Steel, Trinity, South Lake Carrol, Katy, etc. Lastly, Westlake, Lake Travis, and Westwood, are NOT part of the Austin ISD.. and are definately NOT WEAK! Bowie isn't that weak either... Now in 4a he's right... AISD is very WEAK! Again, I wanted comparable or slightly better competition, but not have to drive or spend lots of money to go get it before starting district play.
