@purpcrab... Dude nobody takes you seriously. Even the people that don't like me know I bring the truth. Stop with all the anti-Cochino crying. You fail again! I like you! Just a little rough. You do bring great insight. Wrong quote! I do enjoy reading the jabs between Purp and Chino!

We are bring back 4 offensive linemen with starting varsity experience, a lot of returning offensive talent. Defensively we lost a lot, mainly our d-line.

How many starters are returning The year before he came to East, he went 0-10, and from what I've heard from east players, he really isn't that good. A big reason they beat West last year was because they changed the starting quarterback for that game, as well as west coming into the game quite cocky. Personally, I think we can beat them. He was 0-10 for a weak team in a very good district. You can't deny how he turned around the Ray program and turned them into a playoff team. When Alice got Coach Davis in 2005, he was coming off two straight 1-9 seasons at The Colony. But you couldn't deny what he had previously done at Sinton and ended up doing at Alice. So that 0-10 record he had at the previous school doesn't tell the entire story.

I've said many times that I like McAngus. He is a system guy. Once the kids get his offensive system, they will be a tough team. I believe he has built a good program at West. You guys didn't get all the talent that East got the first few years, but I believe if you all stick with McAngus, he'll make West a competitive team year in and year out(until he leaves for a district that will pay him). You guys have some speed in the offensive backfield and the offense has been getting better each year. The defense, though, seems to need some work. Even with the stud LB's and DL that you all have had, the defense just doesn't seem to be coming together.
This said, I think West will be in a 3 team fight for the 3-5 spots in district. I am definitely pulling for you guys to get in.

I was impressed with the sportsmanship West displayed last year. I think this year is the first time y'all come to Calhoun. I think you will beat TM, BV, East and GP will be a good game. So personally i think you guys will win 3 games, now against those teams I listed i don't know. But i think you guys have 3 district wins in ya.... Thus playoffs!!!

Met a kid at a GP barbershop earlier this summer. Incoming freshman a VW. 14, about 6', 230 lbs or so, looked to be in pretty good shape. Plays DE. I'm curious to see how he plays. He certainly has the physical maturity to pay varsity ball, and talking to him and his dad, he seemed to be mentally ready as well. I offered him the GP booster club parking spot, and promised he could drive the firetruck in the honk parade if he would transfer, but no luck. I think VW gets the 4th spot by beating TM, Beeville, and VE. Close game with GP. I'll go with the homer pick and take GP, but would not be surprised if VW wins that one and takes 3rd in district.

West has a program in place. Mcangus kids are disciplined and play tough. They should beat VE this season
But that defense has got to get better.

I can't get to schedule on this phone for some reason, where is the west/GP game at this year, if i remember correctly it was at GP last year?

JMO but if they don't make the playoffs and beat East the Coach of West will be out of there. They have plenty of talent and are improving every year just can't to seem to put it all together, They're every Bit as Talented as East and should have Beat them by now.
That said:
They Beat T-M and Beeville Loose to Calhoun And Calallen So their playoff's will come If they can win Vs. GP Or East. Win both and in for sure. JMO

I'm wondering why everyone is assuming West will beat East and overall disreguarding East? Maybe you Calhoun fans forget about the clinic that Jonathan Ortega put on in last years game? And I may add that he was playing in that game with a hamstring injury. East returns a very potent spread offense with a big fast receiver (D. Loftin) who made the all state team and also another 1st team all-district selection in Cameron Williams. The defense will be improved, but wont be a strong point. As long as Ortega is healthy this team will put up points on anyone and I doubt seriously West will be able to outscore them.

Clinic?....You mean the 24 carries for 122 yards vs our QB's 23 carries for 271 yards? Ortega is an athalete, no doubt. Johnny Manzel put on a clinic vs PLC, Ortega NOT.

Agree, Ortega is good, but not as good as he thinks he is, just look at the stats for the game and you can see which qb dominated. Silly!!

If I had to pick a winner between VE and West I would have to give the nod to East because of their QB returning VW made a comeback in the VE game because of their QB play in that game who has graduated and depending on how good VW new QB is will have a lot to do with their season. I like the VW coach he is a nice guy but has yet to make the turn around and it may come this year who knows thats why we play the game. The game against Calhoun at Port Lavaca will be tough for both VE & VW they where fired up last year in Victoria it just tough to play in Calhoun them boys get fired up at home not saying it can not be done just tough.

West might have QB issues... kid has never played it ... This East and lack of discipline thing is way overplayed maybe under Finley but not Gonzales if you know anything about coach G you would know he is big on work ethic and discipline

When discipline goes south, it's impossible to get control until a "good Progam" is established....then discipline grows in a possitive way. VE does not have a "Good Program" established....If they did, with the athaletes like they have, they could be one of the best teams in the District or even Area. They have speed, size, and numbers. Get all of that in a "Good Established Program" and you can make some noise.
