I know there is a group of seniors at FB that endured winning only a couple of games in junior high and getting routed 60-0 by Calallen in both 7th and 8th grade. That same group grew up and worked hard and ended up 5-5 as freshmen losing no game by more than 6 points and coming close to beating Calallen (18-12) who had totally dominated them in junior high. Most of that same group were JV players when they were sophomores and were undefeated district champions losing only one game to a varsity team that year in the last seconds. This group appeared to have been dealt a bad hand in junior high, yet persevered, lifted weights, studied film and became a dominating group when they were sophomores. They were pretty much divided between JV and Varsity after that, but will be reunited this fall. After the rough junior high years, this group wants to win more than ever. I've heard fans saying that this year will be a rebuilding year and that maybe it will be taken off to prepare for the next couple of years after that. There are a group of seniors that will beg to differ with Carrell, Tugman, Luby, Yunker, Barerra, Pena, Lodge, Beauregard, Hynson, Martinez, Conoly, and others. There is no excuse to not go undefeated again through the regular season. The talent is there, there just needs to be a different game plan from what we had last year to adapt to the skills these kids have. DCTF says the Bluff needs a dynamic QB to win the Region and that is BS. They need an offense geared to the strength of the kids they have (i.e. watch how Rouse play actioned passed us to sleep) and we can make it as far or farther than last year. The Defense will be solid...there are a lot of kids to choose from to get two solid corners and then we are there. Should be a fun year and there should be no talk of reloading or rebuilding.

Pretty much said it all JD except that DCTF missed the fact that FB has four good choices for QB. One Soph, one junior and two seniors to pick from. The Soph reminds me of Vaughn (sp?) from Cal a few years back. Same build and style. Morgan runs and handles the ball very well. We already know what #14 can do. Three of the four had good showings in the spring game with one held out of contact until August due to surgery and that one led the JV to the undefeated season you mentioned. How can they miss stuff like that? Not doing their homework is the only answer. I am quietly confident that the Hornets will have a great season. :-)

Very true FBfan....I know the 3 older kids well (one of them especially well) and they are all good kids and athletes who want to win. I don't know the younger one though. While the other 3 are a lot alike in talent, they have very different personalities. The one I know well is very INDEPENDENT..lol and much more of a renegade than the others. If you had to pick someone to be in a foxhole with, he wouldn't be a bad choice. Hopefully when the CaCa Times starts reporting on the high school teams we will get some better info on the teams.

Losing Campbell to injury at the Spring Game is an impact that can be planned for as we head into Fall Practice and two-a-days. I hope that Campbell heals well for next year. I did read someone say that he is healing well and might be in playing shape by playoff time. Flour Bluff is looking much better as a program now than 10 years ago.

I agree with you JD on a bunch of your points! A group of kids like this can be damn dangerous. They took some lumps in MS and didn't lay down because of it......they got pissed off and worked their a**e* off and got bigger, stronger, faster.........& NASTIER! That kind of group can win and win big because of not only the work ethic they have but simply because they want it so bad for one another! I also agree with you on the BS comment by DCTF! FB has the manpower to line up and play smash mouth football and play action pass just enough to be very dangerous through the air. Control the clock by pounding the rock, hit em with some 1st & 10 and 2nd & 1 play action mixed depth routes, play tight, nasty defense....& win big! I saw some talent on the field last year for FB that didn't have SR written next to their names on that roster. That talent can get it done in 13'. And yes, I can see FB 10-0 headed into the playoffs as well if the injury bug leaves them alone and some of that young talent I saw plays like they are capable of. The talent is there. Now they need to keep working, get better each week, and stay healthy to make a run at it.

Defense should be strong as always, special teams should be okay, QB we have a stable to pick from when he chooses one stick with him and please no rotation of the signal caller that messes with the chemistry. all and all should be a good season.

There is plenty of talent both sides of the ball. No doubt. This may be the fastest and best defense FB has ever had. Remember I said may be but the talent is there.

I completely agree with you on this post. I said the very EXACT thing last season and it really showed in our last game vs Rouse. As great as our team was, they focused everything they had on our QB and the rest of the team crumbled from there. I hope they learned from this and can make the offense "multi dementional." Our team has the talent and ability to go all the way, I just hope the coaches take advantage of it to its full potential.

What will Flour Bluff need to do to defeat Laredo Martin?

What will Flour Bluff need to do to defeat Laredo Martin? FB will show up and play hard the entire game. No wiggle room for Martin to keep it close like 2012. It is at Hornet Stadium this year. So the Laredo players will feel the fatigue of that long bus ride to Flour Bluff.
