I heard that the bond passed for JISD. They will keep Judson as the largest enrollment school. Wagner will drop down a classification to 4A. The new school in the Selma area will be what is now called 3A. This is what they want. The U.I.L. may throw a wrench into their plans with the new classifications expected in the next few years.
Smithson Valley area was told that their school will always stay 4A as promised by the Comal ISD. We see how true those words were. My cousin who lives in that area is eating crow. He used to always say SV will never go 5A. LOL !

Upon opening, the new HS would already have an enrollment in the (present) 4A range. I have no clue how they're going to work that out given that Judson ISD probably has close to enough kids to have three 5A high schools. Having one of them as a 3A school seems like it would be a total waste of resources. I'm betting that if not when it opens, within a few years all of their schools will be 5A/6A.

Not sure on the specifics just yet but I read in the local news paper (The Herald) that the new HS to be built would be costructed with 'core facilities' to house 2600 students.
Reading the bond flier (see link below) it says the new HS would open with approx 850 kids (9th & 10th grades only), then add apprx 400 students the 2nd year and then approx 350 more the 3rd year bringing it to about 1600 kids with their first full year with 4 grades. If they hit their projection that would put this school firmly in as a 4a (as UIL classifies now).
This flier also stated that Judson began the year with 3450 enrolled. I've heard they were close to 3600 towards the end of the year though. The last alignment numbers had Wagner at 2412 and Judson at 3848 which confuses the Hell out of me because it's hard to believe Judson has dropped in numbers since they were gathered in Oct of 2011.
Either way, the only combination I see for JISD is 2 5a schools (6a under new UIL aligment) and one 4a school (5a under UIL new alignment).

The new HS would likely open in 4A (or 5A, as it will be called from 2014 forward) but likely wouldn't be in that class for very long.

The new school won't be ready for another three years. Yes, exactly. Very strange for this day in age in construction. Most elementary and middle schools are set on a 10-16 month schedule and high schools are set on 18-24 months. I think Judson has learned their lesson the tough way on previous projects and now have gotten a bit 'gun shy' and are doing their homework a bit better. Not that anyone took advantage of them........more in the lines that they've gone into projects without completely clear views of the finished product and had lots of internal issues throughout them costing them a ton of $$$. I think when they re-built Rutledge stadium & the field house it went over budget about 2X the original cost estimate.

LOL Seriously though, Laredo is growing like crazy and there is a lot of cash to spend it seems. If this school happens what schools will it pull from?

Isn't the school getting built near Rolling Oaks? If so, I thought that was North East/Comal territory though?

Think a bit farther east in Selma. Selma is in the JISD.
