As much as I love Calhoun football, my son plays for them, I think calallen is going to come out with their collective asses on fire and really put up a good fight. Two losses in a row will do that. I think Calhoun will find calallen to be their first regular season loss in some time. A loss at calallen is nothing to be ashamed of, and if "the streak" is going to end. Might as well be them. But........ If Calhoun can pull this one out, I don't see anyone else in district challenging them. Someone else said Calallen's offense starts slow at the begining of the year but by the time the Crabs play them it should be in good form. East might be third but most likely a dog fight for fourth.

Bisby should break the record for most carries in a season.

Way to early for me to try and make any predictions need to see how well Calhoun's defense does the first few games. The offense will be fine if they stay healthy as for Calallen need to see if they find a offense this year I can not really say they improved as the season went on last year they where hit and miss depending on how tough a defense they faced and some people on this board are counting GP out but they seem to have some key players returning it will all become clearer after the first few games............

Just an update from crab land, my son said the transfers that are taking part in spring practices, ( from Refugio and VE) have said that they have never experienced anything like it. Much more physical, and much more cardio. I was surprised to here that from the Refugio kids. As for VE I know a lot of the parents and have been told what they do. Not anything near the work of Calhoun. Which is surprising. I'm not picking on VE, just repeating what I've been told. I've seen a trend in what occurs with spring ball as well. It seems to me the kids and parents at Calhoun have bought in 110% compared to the kids and parents at VE. In talking with my kid an his friends, they have repeated a lot of the things the transfer has told them, and it appears to me that, and I'm not surprised, there is an awful lot of politics in the the Victoria school system on what, how, and when certain kids play. Not only that, but what type of football they play. Calhoun plays the veer because that's the type of kids we have. I think after years of futility, you would think Victoria would be open to different ideas as to what type of offense they run. Just an observation and an opinion. I may be way off on this but...... The Refugio kids have said that its just a lot more work. But every coach has philosophies and who am I to argue with a state championship program? I know that calallens spring program is a lot of work as well. I know nothing about the team just north of chorpus, ( I can't say the name anymore) lets just leave that one alone!! Also nothing a out TM, and feel terrible about the current state of the beeville program. I would like nothing more than to see TM sneak into a playoff in 2013!! Until then..... Cheers I believe this. Victoria has too many athletes that should be able to compete. As for Refugio, they are at the 2A level, and it may be hard to keep the limited number of kids on the team with hard practices.

What is it, no one can tell me, why on earth the VE people have any say so as to where this kid plays football as long as he follows the transfer rules?

See there is a thing called the UIL. The UIL says an athlete can not move or transfer for athletic purposes. Dont know all the reasons the kids moved to Calhoun but..... No coach will sign a previous athletic paper (PAP) for a kid who moves and will be playing his old team. If found by the UIL he did not move for athletic purposes than he will be cleared to play at varsity level. If found by UIL he moved for athletic reasons he can play sub varsity for a year then varsity the next year. The coach not signing a PAP is usually not overturned by UIL in most cases.

Ya... I know what the uil is. I was asking about what form it is. They did not move for athletic purposes. He is a nice young man, but by no means a football stud. He isnt going to win Calhoun anymore games. Just seems kind of silly to me that a coach won't release a kid to play when it's more practical for him and his family to attend Calhoun.
But, that's Victoria for ya. Just falls in line with everything else I hear about the school system, and athletic departments. All they want are yes people, and the kids who play are not always those most deserving.
I'm repeating someone else when I say this. Victoria has the athletes to compete and perhaps dominate the district is most sports, including football, heck they have close 800 more kids to pick from at each school, than Calhoun does. But most of those athletes are walking the halls of the school, or at home, and not playing sports because of the BS that happens over there.

Did not mean to sound bad. Sounds to me some jealousy for a successful program. I and the old coaches I worked with always signed the PAP. If the kid does not want to be there or has to move then let him go. We did this in hopes if we needed a PAP signed the other coaches will do it. Victoria coaches will be sorry when they get a move in and District Executive Committee wont approve theirs. What comes around goes around if you know what I mean. Cant wait to see the Calallen Calhoun game. As we used to say in the old days.....Gonna be a blood letting...Hope the kid gets cleared.

His parents bought a home in our school district and I believe his mom or dad works in point comfort. This is how ive understood the situation with said kid. Heshould be fine to be cleared but,by not signing the pap they do prevent him from participating in varsity athletics this year

Sounds as though Calhoun has been selected as the team for this reality show, pending school board approval. Not for sure but very good info. If so i hope this does not ruin the team. This is a big deal and will be broadcast nationally. Good luck. Does coach Whit have any say so in this matter? Honestly, I really don't like this at all.
