One of the things that was impressive about both these teams is the size and speed both teams had. Katy may have had more depth and that's a signiture of how they play and what their program is all about. The Tigers had to keep the pedal to the metal to hold off a quality team that never gave up. This is the kinda HS football I like to watch !!!    Coach Joseph, a man of few words, will have these young men focused and ready to play next week. Looking forward to this State Championship Game.  Talk about a heck of a game. Good luck to your Tigers and your wife's Brahmas next week at Jerry World! |

Katy is a really, really good football team. Their offense is by far the best in the state without a doubt. I didn't think there was a team that could put 24 points on Steele in one half.....& Katy did it in the 2nd half. Their depth on the O-line was more than just a bit impressive. I did not count but I'd bet that at least 12 different offensive lineman saw action yesterday and I don'nt think there was a drop off from 1 to another. Simply put, we got worn out in the 2nd half on our D line by this. That and the fact that we lost one of our DEs in the game did not help. Our Stud Safety/RB/Punt Returner broke his hand on his first carry of the game in the first series and played the rest of the game. I saw a picture of it last night and it was ugly swollen. Sterns is a TOUGH kid as are all the Knights and we are damn proud of them all.
I thought the pick 6 by Katy's best D-lineman on a screen pass in the first half was a dagger at that point but our boys gathered themselves and fought back with 21 straight in the last couple minutes of the 1st half to tie it up. I couldn't have been more proud at that point. But, Katy came out and dictated the game in the 2nd half and wore us out.
Congrats to Katy and I have no doubt that this was the defacto state title game. I think Katy beasts up on Cedar Hill next week and will run rule them.
Last, I'd read on the 5a forum about Katy bringing 15k-20k. Looking across at the visitors side there were enough fans to completely fill 3 sections and a small portion of a 4th. Unless that visitors side seats 30K there was nowhere near 10K at the game. The best I can figure is there were 8K-9K on Katy's side as the attendance reported in the SAEN was 21K and without a doubt steele held the edge on that stat. Way to go Knight fans!

I also thought that besides the pick six what killed our momentum was 2 offensive face mask calls!  Both were 15 yard penalties that basically stopped two of our drives....one was actually about a 30-35 yd penalty and took away about a 20 yard play that would have set us up 1st and 10 at about Katy's 35 or so. KILLER. that was one hell of a game in the first half katy came out and tried to drag you all behind the wood shed but CS came back at the half OMG, you scored, okay katy had the ball then WTF CS scored again and the again i was shocked on how quick that happened. and then the second half came and it was like you said they flat wore you all out. funny thing i noticed about that game, each QB did not run around crazy they played their assignments,HHHHHHHMMMMM some thing our team needs to embrace Thanks 278. Our kids gave it their best shot....just ran out of gas and couldn't get a stop. That Katy O-line was the truth. Our D-line is nasty and they handled them! Our kids played with pride and could have folded after going down 21-0 in the first 15 minutes or so. Just wish we would have come out throwing it around a bit more like I'd anticipated we would. I knew Katy was going to be awfully hard to run up the middle on and they were. We did not try getting the corner on them very much but when we did we had success??? We lose some very good players like that big 74 on the D line, a couple LBs, and 3 DBs on defense........our QB and 3 lineman but the rest are coming back! We also really missed our other Jr RB who'd been out since about week 4 or so. He was cleared to play by the Drs this week but I think coach and his parents made the decision to hold him out. He had knee surgery and I think they were very concerned with putting him back in action against an opponent 'with teeth' like the Tigers have! Kid is also a game changer with his quickness and lateral movement along with his pass catching skills. I personally fell we will be better next year than we were this year with what we have coming back. These kids work their tails off and if we can just stay healthy I really like our chances next season. We have a good Jr QB that was the backup this year and got quite a bit of PT and the soph FB (#10) is flat out good back there at QB! He was simply unreal in teh spring game this past year running the offense. Also, to let everybody know....this was absolutely one of the funnest games I've ever attended. 21K fans and we went at it back and forth starting 45 minutes before kickoff. Simply put......a Hell of a lot of fun! |

clemens...come on dude. I've known who you are for a long time. Dont start trying to act like billy bas a$$ because we both know that isnt true. The thread was started in bad taste mostly in part by a couple of Katy fans...not named me...and the usual Steele guys. One of your own PM'd me and told me you were going to play ghost all week despite saying you couldnt wait for this day. I knew your plan before it ever happened. None of it mattered. I talked pretty calmly allllll week long. When the admins said "enough is enough" everyone quit....the ones who couldnt control their anger (YOU)...were banned. You cant blame the rest of the posters or the admins for your internet bad a$$ raging sessions. We know how to keep our cool on an internet message board, but popeye from Cibolo can never do that. Always falling off the deep end..threatening to beat someone up. Well our humble Hacienda de Sports owns two State Football Championships this year ...my wife's and my HS alma mater football teams both won STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - Congrats to my KATY TIGERS and congrats to my wife's team the East Bernard Brahmas !!!My son is also the Class of 2013 and could very well have gone to Katy, deal is he made his roots in Rockport and he gave up football to play a sport he loves - baseball - year round. And he was a pretty dang good football player before he hung up the cleats after his freshman year:  He loves his football, and basketball, ... but he loves his time on the mound and in the box more.  |
