Search continues for Coppell football standout Jacob LoganFamily, friends mourn Coppell teen who's presumed drowned The residents of Coppell (Texas) are sending out prayers on Twitter for the safe return of local football standout Jacob Logan. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior, who is a standout at defensive back and wide receiver, reportedly jumped into Possum Kingdom Lake on Sunday and has been missing ever since. According to a blog in the Dallas Morning News, the search was called off late Sunday night but resumed Monday morning. He is among the leaders of the Coppell High football team, which is unbeaten this year and is rated No. 3 in the nation by the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings. Coppell defeated Hebron 29-3 Friday and moved to 6-0 on the season for coach Joe McBride. Logan and several teammates took a trip the the family's lake house, McBride told the DMN. McBride was not on the trip. “I’m struggling,” he told the newspaper. “Jacob jumped into the lake, and nobody has seen him.” Grief counselors are available at Coppell and hundreds of people gathered at the school's football field Sunday night, under the lights, for a prayer vigil.

Horrible news. I'm sure he was on the Coppell 7 on 7 team we played. They had some excellent athletes...we lost 20-14 in a good game. Very sorry to hear this horrible news.

Yes
I saw this early this week on the 5a board. Horrible indeed. If I remember right another young man from another team drowned in a similiar circumstance last year. Very tragic indeed.

Body of Coppell football star Jacob Logan is foundThe search for Coppell (Texas) standout football player Jacob Logan is over. Search teams recovered his body at Possum Kingdom Lake Thursday at 9:21 p.m., more than four days after he never resurfaced from cliff diving with friends. According to reports, Brazos River Authority spokesperson Judi Pierce said the justice of the peace made a positive identification, and his next of kin was notified. It brings some closure to the Cowboys, the nation's No. 3 team, who will honor Jacob by wearing his number "21" on the side of their helmets when they play at Flower Mound later today. All have been encouraged to wear blue ribbons and shirts - Jacob's favorite color from his favorite team, the University of Kentucky - and there will be a moment of silence before the game. The players have grieved all week, said head coach Joe McBride, who spoke with MaxPreps correspondent and longtime friend Randy Jennings about four hours before divers found Jacob's body. Almost all had presumed the worst by then. Now the team and community should be able to completely grieve. Jacob, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver, was a Division I football prospect, a team and school leader and superb all-around athlete. It's like losing a son," McBride said. "I've been working with him his entire three and a half years in our program. He was the bell cow guy of our team, a natural leader that the other guys followed. A great young man not only on the football team, but in all aspects of life. "Our kids have come to a place of peace. They hurt — we all hurt — but they will play with the though of him on their mind." On Friday morning, McBride tweeted: "Jacob has been found. ... Have peace and get sleep. Tomorrow the sun will be up and we WILL have a great day?" Close friend Tyler Jones told nbcdfw.com: "He was Superman. He was the best at everything he ever did — best football player, best basketball player, best soccer player, great student." The discovery of Jacob's body ends an absolutely tragic week on the Coppell campus. On Tuesday, another student and track and field athlete Jonah Blackwell, 18, died from an apparent suicide. Here is a moving video tribute to Logan from an unknown friend.I made this for the greatest. He was the star and shined no matter what. He will always be the best at what he did. A big Christian and a kind caring heart. An inspiration and influence on others even if they didnt know him personally. His spirit will always be with us, always leading us. Making sure we do not miss a step. We love you Jacob and your always in our thoughts and prayers. I knew him up until the 3rd grade, we always were toe to toe especially in four square, but he always had me in racing and everything else pretty much. He was a marvelous friend and i never forgot about him and his family. I grew up with them for a part of my life and i will always love them. Love you Jacob and you will always be in my heart. I guarentee you'll be in all of our hearts and thoughts. #21 Forever Jacob Logan. - Zach Molina

Coppell wins first game back after tragedies
As expected, Coppell (Texas) High School's football team played with a lot of emotion Friday night.
But Coppell, the nation's No. 3 team in the MaxPreps Freeman computer rankings, also played tired in a 27-18 win at Flower Mound on Friday night.
Eyes from throughout the country were on the Cowboys, who played despite losing one of their star players and team leaders Jacob Logan while cliff-jumping at Possum Kingdom Lake.
Logan was missing for four days until his body was recovered 9:21 p.m. on Thursday. It's been a remarkably draining week to say the least for the Cowboys, who improved to 7-0 and wore giant "21" stickers on the side of their helmets in honor of Logan.
Coppell suffered a second tragedy on campus this week as well when senior track athlete Jonah Blackwell, 18, was found dead on a nature trail at a park. He had been texting suicidal messages.
"We played the way our week has been," Coppell head coach Joe McBride told the Dallas Morning News. "It was hard to care about football. To be honest, football just didn't mean that much to us this week."
Fans wore blue T-shirts in his honor, and banners around the stadium read "Play for J-Lo" and "Fight for-J-Lo."
Coppell got touchdown runs of 75 and 7 yards by Gavin McDaniel.

Wow, very, very tough week for teh Cowboys.
I've been there man. WE lost five seniors in our class to accidents back in the day. We only graduated 216 so of course we all knew everyone on campus and it was truly hard to deal with to say the least.
My heart goes out to the family and friends of these two young athletes.
