ccv, Jinks a new SM coach Soto are very, very good friends. They played together at Judson and also coached together at JISD when they both first came out of college. IMO, Coach will try and get a 2-3 TD lead and he will then will do one of two things....1) empty the bench and starters are done for the night or, 2) pull some starters a bit earlier 14- point lead and mix and match players with different looks so that he and the staff can evaluate kids and plays. He will never, EVER run up a score on anyone and especially not a good friend like Soto so I expect if we get after it to have a final of about 40+ to 28-. We actually played an outstanding game last week against a pretty solid WL team. We had 3 defensive starters out and 2 on offense and then another came out of the lockeroom after halftime without pads on. So, for having a lot of key people out we did great holding them to 162 total yards of offense and 10 penalties. We are finally working one of our Jr hoss O-lineman back in after a 6 month recovery from surgery in off season. His bro was our starting center for the last two years but he makes big bro look small. This kid is 6'5"+ and 328 pounds! Our Oline looks like this right now starting at TE: TE.......T......G.....C.....G.......T 227, 292, 286, 260, 280, 328 We also have a kid that is 6'5" 326 that is working some. We also have 3 sophomores starting right now and a ton more of them getting PT. We have played something like 14 so far and we had 7 start the 2nd half on D against Tivy. So, for playing so many younguns we are doing a good job.

Game went about like I thought but a heavy downpour changed things up a bit through the entire 1st qtr and into the 2nd. Stockton went off for 183 on 9 carries and 3 tds. Final was 42-14. I think everyone suited played last night as Jinks subbed often and early.
Here are the stats of the game.
........................San Marcos........Steele Total yards..........145.................422 First downs..........12..................19 Rushes/Yds.......47/133.........38/313 Average rush......2.83............8.24 Comp/Atts..........1/5/0..........6/13/0 Pass yards...........12................109 Comp pct.............20.................46.15 Punts...................7...................2 Punting Yards.....253...............51 Punting Average..36.14..........25.5 Fumbles/Lost.......1/0...............3/1 Penalties-yards....8-85...........7-45

Maybe next year Steele will venture North of Austin to play some teams. I'd like to see a SL Carrol match up or Euless Trinity maybe a D Skyline match up.

Man...if Steele had an out of state match up that's be great! It'd definitely put our school district on the map nationally and maybe we wouldn't be considered the third hottest recruiting spot in Texas after Dallas and Houston afterwards.

It only changes every two years in realigment. Jinks tried to get a couple of teams from out of the region this past realigment but it didn't work out between either of them. One was a R1 team the other was R3. It is easier said than done with the huge cost of travel when you consider that it takes at least 10 busses just for our team, band, dance team, cheerleaders, etc. And with budgets what they are and unless things get better by the spring of 2014, I wouldn't count on any. Yes, I love to see them play an OOS opponent, especially after watching the two FL teams on TV the other night! I think we'd be very competitive with any of the OOS teams I've seen the past few years.

SA area has made HUGE strides in the recruiting world the last 10 years or so. Used to be a good year in SA when more than a couple kids signed.......now, there are many D1 kids inked every year. SA football is getting better and better and our top teams are very good each year. I actually believe R4 > R3 now in 5a football. Yes, they still have Katy and the occasional NS team or Pearland team, but I'd put our top 10 against theirs any damn day!

Maybe it could even be an ESPN game at Lehnhoff? Stay tuned! And I heard that R3 team was I believe North Shore? Wuold've been a great game indeed.

Budget aside if we could bring more notariety to our area it'd be worth it in the long run. The reward would be getting more of our truly deserving kids full rides. Young and humble talent getting recognition pays dividends in more ways than financially. When I met Malcolm Brown his senior year I was pleasantly surprised that he was respectful, courteous and humble...same with Aaron Green. The example they set for our youngsters is the true payoff. Now if we could just get some of these crazy parents to emulate Malcolm's and Aaron's parents I'd be content lol....
