Lake Travis narrowly avoids upsetFans of Lake Travis (Austin, Texas) can breathe a sigh of relief, as it managed to avoid becoming another victim in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 to be upset Friday night. The Cavaliers received a scare from Round Rock Westwood (Austin), but staged a fourth quarter comeback to come away with a 28-24 victory. With No. 2 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), No. 4 Skyline (Texas) and No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) having already fallen, Lake Travis trailed 24-22 with three minutes to play when senior quarterback Baker Mayfield found Varshaun Nixon for an 18-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, but the Cavaliers hung on for the 28-24 road win. Lake Travis came into the game ranked No. 9 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25, while Round Rock Westwood entered the game ranked No. 78 in the state of Texas. Westwood dang near pulled it off, but LT did what a Champion does and found a way to win a tight game on the road when they did not play their best ball.
They have A&M Cons this week at home and that might be another good one. LT lost their best WR for the year and have a few other kids dinged up as well. Consolidated is no joke and are a solid team that is battle tested. They will not come in to the game with deer in the headlights look.
That said, LT by 21. I simply think that this close call will have woke the giant up a bit and they come out and execute like they are capable of.
LT 35 Cons 14

Closest game LT has had since the two versus Cedar Park last year. RR Westwood is at Cedar Park this week. What are your thoughts there?

WL beat them 21-7 in week 0 and then they a pretty average Cooper team 17-14. Last week they only beat Harker Heights 10-0. They are definately struggling. I had them pegged as a top 2-3 R4 team this year coming into the year but IMO, they are nowhere near that right now it seems. THey've had a fairly tough schedule so far and the next two games are even tougher in WW and Leander. We will see how they handle that but unless they play better they will lose both possibly.
