My son started football last week and I am not sure who is having more fun, him or me.
He is 11 and in the 6th grade on a team with 6th, 7th, and 8th. He probably won't play much, but they will put the 6th graders in during blowouts.
So anyway, today was the first day of full pads. He has never played before so he was pretty nervous (me too). I am happy to say, he made it through and wants to go back tomorrow. Mission accomplished. He does have a pretty gnarly bruise on his forearm, I told him to rub some dirt on it and show it to all the girls tomorrow at school.

Good luck to your son. How does the Mom feel about this?

Good luck to your son. How does the Mom feel about this? Mom is on board. I forgot to mention that he goes to a small private school, so I am able to help coach as well. I have been working with the lineman and he is a receiver so we are usually on opposite ends of the field. I do, however, keep and eye on him from a distance which is probably for the best. LOL. Every evening after practice and even on the weekends he has asked me to throw to him. Good times.

That is a pretty big difference in size from 6th thru 8th graders for sure as some kids have matured a lot further than others at that age. REally glad to hear he's ready to go to practice tomorrow...that is a good sign. Enjoy...it is a lot of fun!

First game today.
Funny story. The jerseys have not arrived so they are wearing jerseys from years ago. My son was given #72 (He is a WR) and it is huge. It almost touches his knee caps. Anyway. He is still super excited because you get to wear your jersey to school on game day.
Hopefully he gets in on a few plays today and everyone makes it out injury free.

Glad to see he's so fired up about game day! That is a great sign. My boy is a bit depressed as it looks like he is being moved to Center from OT. So, I told him to go out there on Friday the first day of full pads and knock the snot out of everyone in front of him when they have him at DE and maybe they'll forget about him playing on the O.

39-12 Winnah!
We had 4 TDs called back on blocks in the back. Game should have been over in the 1st quarter.
My son played most of the 4th quarter at DE (which he has never even lined up for). He said it was fun , but he felt lost and didn't know what to do. I told him next time, just hit somebody. LOL.
I was not aware, but the team broke a 10 game losing streak tonight.

Had a bit of a letdown last week. Team fell 26-12 and my son did not make it into the game.
This week's game is against the big rival. All the boys are super pumped up. Hopefully he will get in this week.

We took an 8-6 lead into the 4th quarter. The other team scored with 36 seconds left to take a 14-8 lead. On the kickoff return, the referee blew the whistle before our return guy was down. He admitted his mistake immediately. The next play our WR cramped up and fell down. INT. They kneeled. Game Over.
Tough. Tough. Loss.

We won big tonight. Evened our record at 2-2. My son played almost a full 3 quarters at DE. He had a blast. Super proud.

Another big win tonight. We avenged an early season loss to Hallettsville with a 38-20 victory. We are now 3-2 and tied for 2nd in the district. Big game vs. 1st place team next week.
My son did not get in this week, but he is super pumped up. Big Pep Rally scheduled for Game Day next week.
