They were a good program, Johnathan Gray took them to another level, so they're a bit of a mystery heading into 2012. They could be really good again, or they could be down (relatively speaking.) Ahead of them, my thoughts on Guyer are well known. Rider has a true game-changer at QB, while Amarillo has been a solid program in 5A for the past few years and has a lot of talent back.

I'm a little higher on Aledo because of their defense -- they've done a remarkable job against some very high-powered offenses in the past, and I think they probably have the talent and coaching to be strong again in that area. I agree that their offense will very likely not be as strong without JG. Like I said, I'll need to look into the other teams a bit more to make an informed guess about this.

Aledo is an unknown with both Gray and the QB (Bishop) headed to college. Can Aledo just reload like Lake Travis? Aledo is supposed to be returning a good portion of the Defense. They might need a very strong Defense until the new offense can find it's groove. Denton Guyer gets the first look at Aledo in a scrimmage on August 24th. I guess we will see how well Aledo does in their first game against Highland Park at the Tom Landry Classic (SMU Stadium). Then Aledo follows that up @ Stephenville on September 7th. 2, 3 & 4 might move around based on what Aledo does and what Amarillo brings to 4A.

We should have a pretty good idea what the top teams are bringing to the table early on as none of them are playing a cakewalk. Guyer opens with three straight 5A squads. Rider has Abilene Cooper, Denton Ryan, and then plays Amarillo in Week 2... Amarillo plays Wolfforth Frenship and Stephenville after that. Waco plays at Copperas Cove in Week 2, but should win their other two non-district games.

Some very good teams on your list. I think your rankings are very spot on with Aledo being the biggest mystery. No doubt they have a good program and their D should be special this season but losing two players like Bishop and JG will be very hard to overcome. If they win the region again this year it will be amazing and surely solidify them as a top notch PROGRAM
