It's that danged global warming...
Seriously, though, wasn't last summer the hottest on record? We had something like a month straight of 100-plus temperatures here in DFW. It was 106 for our first game of the season. I wonder if that had something to do with it.
Even when I was in high school (I graduated in '02) you didn't hear much about heat-related deaths. But then we'd still be playing outside all summer, no big deal. The whole "sit indoors all summer playing XBOX" thing seems an even more recent phenomenon. Of course, we could have done that (there wasn't XBOX but there was Nintendo) but our parents made us go outside sometimes.

It could be a number of things. But times changes and so does the world , culture , etc.. We can go back and forth till we r blue in the face. But think a second if one of our boys were to be a statistic , God forbid, in this Texas heat? I think safety for our boys is priority # 1... And if the UIL thinks these rules and changes will help protect them from summer heat, it's a good thing. You remember back in the day in any outside activity if you got tired first or drank water first, the guys would raz you and call you weak and such. Can't have that anymore. Kids need to hydrate and leave the alpha male mentality to booger.

I don't think it was the hottest but it was one of the top 3--5 hottest that's for sure. It sure was brutal. I remember JH football tryouts the first week, and we got water breaks every 15 minutes, maybe even shorter. The thing is that instead of getting off their lazy arshs and going over to their friend's house, these kids have "Xbox live" and communicate to their friends that way. The scary thing is that nothing is done to stop it.

Maybe we understimated the speed things might change back in the '60s.
