What the heck is going on? Saw something on the news about the cal volleyball coach not having her contract renewed. She claims she had good job evaluations in both teaching and the volleyball program, but was not offered a contract for 2012/13. Didn't cal go 4 deep into the VB playoffs?

I don't know what the deal is? I do know some Volleyball parents, so I will get their take on it.
I would caution. Anything being reported by KRIS should be taken for what it is until more facts come out. They have a bad habit over there at trying to make news.

I don't know what's going on with the coach as it came out of nowhere. But when I saw the coverage last night, I knew they would make the board look bad, but the reporter should know that once you terminate someone, most lawyers will tell the board and others to keep their mouths shut because the board and Super is on the clock now as far as litigation possiblities and public statements can and will be used against them. So when I saw the report last night and the write up in the paper, my intial response was let the rest of it come out before we assign villian status to either side.

I'm really not slamming cal or anybody here. My wife is a public school teacher, I know it is very unusual for a teacher not to get their contract renewed. Coaches usually just get reassigned to just teaching duties or some other admin job. I certainly hate to see somebody lose their job for "political" reasons.

From what I understand she was not able to teach any of the regular classes. She was only certified in PE and they supposedly had a coach in that position. Her probationary status along with the salery of a 26 year coach made her expendable. Typical I guess! Who cares if she was a great coach and a positive influence not only for her team but the rest of the school and the community? Definitely not the board of director's!

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using ProBoards I did not realize she was on a probationary contract. I know GP gives all new teachers in the district a 1 year probationary contract thier first year. After that they are pretty much automatic. It is pretty hard for a school to have a PE only teacher/coach, most have to teach an academic course as well. My son is a 7th grade math teacher at Robstown, also an assistant track coach, hopes to get a football assistant gig this year, but who knows.

If you did not ever get to see her coach, she was full of enthusiasm to say the least. Her players responded to her and she paid attention to every detail during a game. The only one with a louder voice than her in the gym was her drill sargeant husband! She would have had another great run this year and possibly gotten those girls to state now without that high powered Lake Travis team hanging around 4A.

That's what I'm doing as well, but I feel bad for the girls on the team. Hard to stay focused when you're wondering every year who your coach is gonna be.

Lets review the info. 35 wins 12 losses, District ship, lost in region semis to eventual State Champ. Positive teaching review from principal and AD. They knew what she could coach and teach when they hired her last year. They knew what they had to pay for her 26 yrs experience when they hired her last year. Some players spoke on her behalf at meeting. Who knows? But hate to see teachers and players not get a fair shake. Sounds like she stepped on the wrong toes.

The hard part now is trying to find a competent replacement. Who is going to want that job now considering the kind of turnover it's had.
