Brandon Griffith just destroyed the state record in the bench press for the 198 lb division at the Calallen Meet. The old record was 425 and Brandon got 450.
The record is currently "unofficial" as it just happened a few minutes ago. Congrats Brandon.

Found out that in order to get the "official" State Record, you have to break the record at the State Meet.

450 lb bench in high school is pretty freaking unbelievable. Not many college players can throw that up. Wow.

"State" records can also be set at each regional championship meet, all season meets are just basically regional qualifiers. 1600# is impressive for 198# but JJ Gonzales' 1415 at 148# is more so. Both PLC and GP have very good programs, but I think GP has a better "Team" this year and will make some serious noise at the State meet, region 5 is really the strongest region in Texas.

Regional Meets have their own records. In order to break a State record, the lift must be done at the State meet. This is in the THSPA rule book (page 4.)

Making the trip to Abilene with the family this weekend to watch Brandon lift. He finished 2nd at regionals after tying with another guy and placing second on body weight. Same thing happened last year at state with the same lifter.
Good luck Beast!

Brandon should have took Regions but good luck to him at state. We (GP) are taking 8 to state with the intent on bringing home the Title. Oh and congrats to your girls on their win.

I agree with you, Brandon should have taken 1st at regional meet. Good Luck to all the GP lifters. I know they are going to do great. Thanks the girls did amazing last Saturday. 3 of them are traveling to Wisconsin this weekend to compete at Nationals.
