All this discussion about Arevelo getting tired, pitchs getting flat, woulda , coulda, shoulda, bottom line is the kid gave up 2 runs on 5 hits(one of those was really an error) in 9 innings...pretty darn good at this level......Calallen lost game 1 because too many runners LOB......not because of the pitching.

Calallen had gone ahead on Mathisen's RBI double in the third, but couldn't take advantage of other opportunities. For the game, the Wildcats stranded 11 runners, seven in scoring position. (reported caller/times) Very unCalallenlike indeed to strand that many base runners. Kid from SV must have done a great job on the mound in the stretch and the D must have played very good that is why the 4 errors surprised me. I called SV in 3 on this series and stick by that still. I do not see SV..........or anyone for that matter getting 2 in a row from Cal. But I think Cal will get game 2 and SV takes 3rd game. However, it would not surprise me in the least to see Cal get both games and advance!

I did not watch game, and was not spreaking of Arevalo, but rather pitchers in general. You are right, 2 runs on 5 hits aint bad. However, when a batter is seeing the pitcher for the 3rd time, they will normally start hitting the ball. Combination of pitcher getting tired and batter knowing what is coming. I think SV takes it in 2.

I agree...for what it's worth... 2 out inducing ground balls..which is what a pitcher is supposed to do..... produce no outs and lead to 2 runs....ouch...good job Mondie....

You are absolutely right!! Arevelo pitched an excellent game and was still piching good ball in the nineth inning. It was the men LOB that killed the Cats.

The kid that pitched yesterday is Arevalo.... the media have butchered his name and have called him every name but his, he is not finished yet plenty more baseball games.

If anyone has somehow gotten the idea that I was blaming one player especially Arevalo for "losing" a team game you have completely missed my point. I am not going to restate it but feel free to re read what I said. The guy pitched a very good game allowing only 2 runs and 5 hits. I lost count after 7 Ks. Hell Cliff Lee gets pulled sometimes it's not an insult. Now I am having flash backs to "input" from parents and fans in days gone by.

Sounds like this young man may just be another highly recruited Cal pitcher in the near future. If he has a good sr year I would think he'll be entertaining numerous offers
