So, if someones parents come beat on your desk you dont HAVE to start them at QB? Wow, who knew? Point is unfourtanetly there are coaches who get influenced or forced to make decisions like that.. Anyway Danaher > Andrus.... but I think it has alot to do with coaching staff at the Jr. high ranks. True story...as some of you know I coach Traveling Summer Basketball as a hobby.. Had a kid in 8th grade raw talent.. In school they had him playing the 5 or post, whatever you will call it. Over the summer I developed him into a pg. He had great skills. 9th grade year..post? in school.. Summer going into 10th grade we won 2 tourny, and finished no less than 3rd in the rest with him at point and the area's best 3 pointer moved to sg who was a jr at the time. Kid didnt get recognized till Coach Beltran saw him and knew where to put him..at guard.. not post like the jr high coaches did... So why some of us can pretend our feeder program coaches know whats going on and our Varsity coaches evaluate those kids closley, that's not the case... JMO Coaches, Teachers, Bosses etc. Some can some can't. The old line was "If they can't teach then coach and if they can't coach then administrate." Kinda like the peter principle.

Or...if they can't handle the pole, let them serve drinks and if they can't serve drinks...let them take the cover money...if they can't do that, try them on the pole again...or maybe not...i regress

Mims continues to get letters, calls, and visits. I'm sure once football season begins, he will gain more interest since he has bulked out some while continuing to run in 4.5's. Not sure if he will be a QB at the next level or not, but teams are looking at him for all skill positions on offense and DB on defense. I sure hope this kid gets a full ride somewhere...he is a good kid and very talented...he definitely deserves it.

The only concern is his durability. How well does he catch the ball? I'd bet pretty well. I see him as a slot receiver in college.

El Campo was only a short stop in the younger days to the ulitimate destination...Flour Bluff! Sprintman...good hands and moves...started at receiver his sophomore year and he moved to QB after a catch and run in one game displaying his elusive moves. Also has great vision and closing speed as a DB. Mims has put on about 25 lbs since the end of football season and looks to be much more durable. He should have a very exciting season. Also a pretty decent bullrider, but he had to promise he would abstain until after his high school football career.

Any chance they will throw it to him some this year? Move him back and forth between QB and receiver?

If he can go down field with the ball, all the better.

I'm not sure what they have planned, but I wouldn't doubt it if he was on the receiving end of a few plays. You are right about his elusiveness sptrintman...it is a very special gift.
Boog - I do like the idea of spreading the field and sending the receivers deep and let Mims dodge the DE's and then outrun the LB's. Do this to set up the deep pass and he can make the throw.
Last year, FB had 5 QB's record stats in games, 20 running backs, and 15 receivers...that's alot of kids gettting some PT!

Didn't show much this season at qb, so your probably right...wr or db??? What's his height/weight?

He has put on lots of muscle since last season which really started when he was hurt and rehabbing himself. He is 6'0" 175 right now and plans on getting back on the weight circuit after football so he should get over 180 lbs by the season pretty easily. Last year he was playing at 155 or so. I buy him a double-double whenever I see him! lol He was only injurred last year. His sophomore season, he threw for 1,000 yards and rushed for 1,000 yards starting 8 games at QB. If he gets hurt though, we have a real durable back up who is at 6'0" 200...his feed bill is about to break me! lol When Mims wasn't hurt last year, he did great at QB...275 yards passing and 120 yards rushing vs. King in his first game...he got hurt in the 2nd game and never really got to QB a whole game after that. He did gain 90 yards against GP and 90 against LT the last two games. I would say if college scouts watched the King game last year, they would definitely be interested in him. He has about 12 schools calling now and that number will definitely increase once he gets back on the field in the fall.
