Skylar Nelson has been invited to participate in the Texas High School Coaches Association 2012 All-Star Football Game, Presented by FUDDRUCKERS in San Antonio, Texas, Tuesday, July 31st, 2012 at 7:30 PM at the Alamodome.
TEXAS FOOTBALL ALL-STARS ARCHIVES FOR ALAMO HEIGHTS: Skylar Nelson is 1 out of 6 that has ever represented Alamo Heights football in the ALL-STARS GAMES in the past 70 yrs. Wow! I don't know how all the D1 schools ignored Skylar and then they honor the achievements he had this way. He had 180 tackles in his senior year. You'd think that would gain notice. Now he is Gray Shirted at UTSA. Doesn't make much sense, but who ever said life was fair, right?

That is crazy. I would have thought AH would have had a ton more kids then that get this honor. And yes, I cannot understand how a playmaker like him was not offered by many more D1 schools

I bought my 2012 UTSA season tickets last week. I want to be able to get them when the real quality opponents start coming in 2013.
I'm going to tail gate and the whole thing.
I guess I should have done that all these years at Texas State, but never did.
Go Roadrunners! Spring game is April 15th.

If Nelson's parents are well off, a gray shirt at the D-1 level is something a lot of schools use. It allows them to sign him but he won't be counted against the 85-man scholarship limit thereby allowing UTSA to sign another scholarship player who's family may not have the means to pay for school. Most like likely both would not play next year anyway with the one kid getting a redshirt and Nelson getting the grayshirt. I saw several kids getting grayshirts at Rice and noticed the common denominator. One of the more notable was Klein Kubiak. A really good player that would have received a scholarship had his dad not been Gary Kubiak and had the ability to pay for school.
