Don Byrd has resigned from Alamo Heights to go and coach at Central Catholic.
You heard it here first.

Wow, that is huge and me thinks that the Buttons offered some serious cash to get Byrd to leave AH! I'd say that CC will get good fast, especially since they can 'recruit'!

There had been some level of unhappiness with Coach Byrd in '09er land.
I don't see how you could be unhappy with their record though. So they have a year without the best QB in the state. Gee.
CC definitely got a bargain.

Don't see a move like this too often.... Does Central Catholic pay well? I remember Mike Johnston left Katy after a couople of state titles for a private school in Houston, but that's the only similar move that I recall.

Some schools like Strake Jesuit could match the pay for sure.

Some schools like Strake Jesuit could match the pay for sure. I can't recall the name, but I seem to remember that it was a brand new school and he was gonna be the AD and football coach. I guess after what he'd accomplished, the chance to build a program from scratch for the same or better pay would be hard to pass up.

The Katy ISD has always had the $$$ to have the best facilities and can compete with salary increases.
We had our own personalized lockers that were almost 3 times as wide as our visting stadiums lockers - including Tully Stadium.
Man o man - now that I think about it, it was bigger than my locker playing football my freshman year in college.
The Katy Field's Exxon Gas Plant was one of the most prolific gas fields ever discovered.
The JF refined outta that field was the richest ever discovered at that time and when they put into WWII planes and it actually made them fly 10% or so faster and has been credited in history books for turning the tide in saving lives, planes and winning the air war in the dog fights.
Katy ISD had a nice tax base to spent some of the income generated by that gas field on their kids and schools.

S.A. MacArthur coach Van Fuschak went to Antonian a few years back. He had 19 seasons and plenty of playoff runs at MacArthur.
