Jones comes to Tivy from Houston Cypress Woods High School where he was athletic director and head football coach for the 5A program. Jones was the school’s first coach, as they began varsity competition in 2008. During his four years there, he led them to a 38-13 record, making the playoffs all four years and advancing to the state quarterfinals twice.

It’s a good thing, too. Tivy football wasn’t looking for an overhaul, rather somebody who could uphold the history of excelence.
“I think it’s a great opportunity,” Jones said. “This has been a very, very well run football program. What coach (Mark) Smith has put together, I’m just going to benefit from that.”
Smith also left Jones a qualified staff to work with, even if “one ot two” assistants have shown interest in following the former Tivy coach to Judson, according to Kerrville Independent School District superintendent Dan Troxell.
“A lot of good coaches are working there,” Smith said. “They know how to make the system go. I’m certain he will have a great staff to work with.”
And yes, that means the spread is still the weapon of choice for the Tivy offense.
“We will be wide open, I’m not going to run the wing-T,” Jones said. “We will be fast and snap the ball fast. We will be explosive and we will score points.”
If there’s any question to his dedication to finding the end zone, take a look Cyprus Woods numbers during its four varsity seasons. The Wildcats averaged 39 points a game during that span, including a 41.3 point per game average last season.
While the offense seems to be in good hands, the main question facing the new Tivy coach is how well the defense can come together.
The past eight seasons Smith was a more defensive-minded head coach, allowing the offense to remain in the hands of offensive coordinator Julius Scott.
Even though Jones will be concentrating more on the offense, he plans to run the defense with a similar mentality.
“Our defense will be a group of aggressive guys and we will coach them the right way,” Jones said. “We need to be aggressive on both sides of the ball and never let up.”

If Jones can make a success of a new 4 year old school like Cy-Woods, he should be good for Tivy.

Mark Smith....David Jones.
I guess the first qualification to coach at Tivy is that you have an inconspicuous name!
But really, it sounds like a solid hire.

The Antlers are still in need of a DC.

The Antlers are still in need of a DC. The St. Louis Rams have one to loan to Tivy...since he is banned from the NFL indefinitely...

Cy-Woods' defense wasn't all that great. Hopefully, they will have more success at Tivy. I remain optimistic and hope for the best. TIVY FIGHT NEVER DIES![/size][/b]

Well, I do believe Cal proved that already last year, don't you think? LMAO No doubt about it though, if GP & FB can keep improving the CB could be very tough. I think AH will still be a solid team year in and year out. As far as Tivy goes, I think they'll be fine although it will be hard for anyone to duplicate Smith's success there for sure. If Clemens can get the 'right attitude' back, they will be a factor in the next few years. The borders were re-drawn once again and it should funnel about 400-600 more kids back into SC from Steele in the next 2-3 years and with it, a few more top notch athletes.
