Got my first of the season today. Nice fat young buck. Been chowing down on a lot of corn no doubt. Not a trophy but a great "eater" which is my norm. I don't kill it if am not going to eat it. Come on out Mr. Piggy, you're next.
Anyone else hunting? I know CB and JD have to be.

Maybe 83 can fill us in on the hunting season in the Portland area?

I have been glassing a Buck that should score 155-160 range since the opening of Bow season. With that said, I have been able to pull him in within 40 yards twice now, so come rut I should be able to close the deal. Also, have seen 2 huge non-typical @ about 300 yards while out stalking, I’m hoping to put my daughter on one of these out of the gun blind. I guess if I scored one of these bucks as a typical, they would be in the 155 range, but as a non-typical they should hit around 180-185.

Lots of irons in the fire man. I'm hunting with Bluecat this year on a ranch his cousin runs near Cotulla and can't wait to get down there with him. He texted me that they killed a big, wide management 8 point Sat morning there. Waiting for pictures.......come on Bluecat.....you are killing me! LOL

Damn bro......I'd have already picked up old ma bell and dialed her in on that big boy! LOL Seriously, I love bow hunting, there is nothing like getting a old, trophy buck to within 20-30 yards and sending a 31" shaft through his boiler room! I get more pumped up shooting a 120" management or cull buck with a bow then I did shooting a 145" West TX 9 point last year with a rifle! Man, those two NTs sound like true monsters! I sure hope you get your daughter on one of those big boys!

I'm fairly sure 1 of the bucks is around 6 or 7, but the other monster looks younger, so might just pass on that till next year. I passed on a young monster buck 1 year and it cost me as the buck was shot that night up along hwy 90 Brackettville area.

Dude, I wish I had a dollar for every time I passed on a good young deer only to have another hunter shoot him. It does get under your skin for sure but it is what it is and so long as the hunter did it legally, and within the rules of the lease or ranch.......I am good with it. I am just the type of guy that if he's not good enough to spend $500 at the taxidermist and is under 6.5...........let him walk and shoot a doe or spike instead.........Hell, they taste much better then an old buck anyway! LOL We had a 150" 13 point 3.5 year old poached off a ranch I guided on about 6 years ago. he would have been a true monster in 3 more years. Now, that is the kind of thing that makes me fighting mad. I found him dead by seeing buzzards one morning about 200 yds from the county road. There was no doubt he was shot through the lungs with a very small caliber gun........(.22 or .22 mag) I am sure. His horns adorn my office wall right now and people comment on how big he is and I tell them he was just a baby and if he'd have lived another three years..........He'd have been a MONSTER! I am relatively sure he was the son of a buck that was killed 3 years earlier that had 14 scoreable points and was 206".........that buck had over 185" of typical 5X5 frame on him!

Bought my son and I both a green LED light from Elusive Wildlife (guys up in Conroe) that clamps on top of your scope. They promise you can see 250 yards plenty good to shoot old hawgie. Going to try it out tomorrow night if it's not raining.

It would be up to you to prove you were not deer hunting with it and that would not be fun at all, especially in front of the wrong judge!

Texas Parks and Wildlife page says you need to let the local game warden know what you are doing in advance.
