Just seeing this, wow! If Cal goes outside do they retain current coaching staff? Lots of questions and I def worry about the program moving forward. After seeing what GP and Alice have gone through with multiple coaching changes, programs being up and down. Good grief now Calallen is joining the GP, Alice coach of the month not so merry go round? Surely there is a seasoned coach on staff who knows the what and how of the years of successful program management. Well we knew when Steve took the position that it was short term. This is no surprise. I absolutely admire Steve and thank him for his years of dedication at Calallen. He was instrumental in building the program with Danaher. I am confident we'll get someone who will follow that lead and strive to protect the tradition.

The good thing for whoever gets this job is you aren't following the guy..there's a 2 year buffer period there....just from the outside looking in whoever they hire probably will need to have flexibility to completely change over the staff....I think there's gonna be a reset button hit...JMO I think this is a likely scenario.

Not sure either of them want the job. I’d like to see them retained or at least one to familiarize the new regime.

Nope. Going outside for the new hire. Any ideas on who? I would have Castellano on my short list, but figure Calallen might look for someone a little more proven. Calallen isn't getting Castellano. Especially not now with rumors of Herring possibly stepping down in Refugio sooner ranter than later.

If Calallen was smart they'd give Perry from Robstown a look. The second that dude gets his hands on a program on Calallen's level he is going to do great things.

From my understanding the original plan was for him to only be the HC for like 2 years and then retire. A lot of us thought he’d announce it right when football season ended. Then I heard he had decided to stick around a least one more year, I guess he had a change of mind. So it is a shock, but it wouldn’t have been a few months ago. Sometimes people just change their mind.

She is not wrong and don't make it sound like it was made out to be five of so years. The fact is he pretty much did the duties of the AD for the last three years which included Coach D's last year in order to give him a deserved graceful exit. No one was anticipating him staying passed December 2024. Things happen in ones life that take priority and since you think you know it all King, why don't you give Steve a call?

Unless Herring is stepping down in the next few weeks, I don’t think Calallen is a job you easily pass up if you’re Castellano.

I am interested in hearing who gets this job. It's funny to see some of the posts, like taking this job is like taking the cc king job or something. This is Calallen, coaches know the name, know the history, know the tradition, and will apply from all over the state...
Chris Soza, Brent Davis, Castellano, Herring, and other local coaches will most likely apply if I had to guess. I wouldn't be surprised if every local coach applies. Coaches from big programs up north will apply. This will turn out well for Calallen.
One other thing, they have 2 years in the world's worst district to also work through this adjustment and get ready for being the big time power house again just in case it doesn't happen immediately.
