I was surprised that they didn't make it last season. I had them over Pleasanton and RF easily. I knew it would be tough games vs LV, Beeville, and PLC, but thought they would play them tough. I did not expect the outcome they had honestly. same here but that still would have been a 4 and 6 record. We have made the playoffs under him a few times but were always first round exits, and the only winning season he had we had a great qb, rb and a couple of good wr’s, we still only made it to the area round. As I said he was a great AD but not a good coach at all. Another one of them “Jekyll & Hyde” style head coaches they have couple years of playoffs & no playoffs which was an inconsistent style coaching tenures which was like the previous coach Alice had

You have to play to the strengths of the players you have and he kept the same exact offense for his entire tenure. He was an awesome AD and did a heck of a job promoting the kids and getting them in college, he was just an average football coach.

I agree he did do a lot for the students in his tenure. Do I think he was a good coach, no I do not. He had one winning season in his 8 or nine years here. I do wish him the best in his future endeavors. Sometimes wins and losses aren't what make you a good coach. Despite what some may say. If a coach saves a kids life or gets them into college, sometimes that's a successful coach. It truly depends on the situation. This is the most rediculous post in the history of posting. Winning is the big picture. Success teaches kids that hard work pays off. Working twords a goal and what needs to be done to achieve that goal is the biggest lesson in football. Yes helping raise these kids to be good humans and how to be a man goes along ways in the real world. Having good lessons taught is part of coaching. Football turns kids into men. But know one wants to loose and not have success.

Ahh Yes the armchair QB townspeople, they always know best. Yep just ask certain townspeople here 😉... WarCat, I’m here to tell you we”ve got pedigreed armchair QB”s.These Pro Arm chair QB”s are so good, they have their own fan club. They will be in the arm chair hall of fame one day! They are so good, so accurate and so full of it, they are legendary. They are so good I don’t even need to name them. Take a couple guesses!

GP made need to hire an Armchair QB, there is an old saying that if you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same results and GP keeps getting the same results.

Take a job like CC king for instance at the moment. The first and foremost thing that is important to do with those kids is to build character and integrity into those kids. Then they need to learn the fundamentals, build strength and stamina. Then they can start learning to win games the right way. That's a 4 to 5 year process at that school. It's not that you aren't trying to win during those years, because you are, but the focus is on other things. Building a strong foundation. When you have a program like GP that already has the foundation laid, you can get a coach like Davis to right the ship and winning happens again. Same with Alice and Castellano.

I’ve seen quite few very good coaches over the years and the very best always a high degree of integrity that permeates their programs top to bottom. I’ve also seen some coaches who don’t seem to care about integrity at all and have a win at all cost mentality. Let’s get down to what athletics in a publicly funded schools must maintain. Athletes are drawn to programs that afford them an environment where they can safely train and workout with coaches and trainers who can make them better athletes and be part of a team. There are many kids who attend the schools without much guidance and feel the need to be a part of a team. In effect the coaches and to an extent teachers can give the kind of guideance that is missing outside of athletics. To me, athletics gave me a chance to improve myself physically and helped me to see how to be part of an organization that I was allowed to control. I worked hard make myself a leader on that team. Later in life that benefitted me greatly because I learned that I would rather lead than follow. Athletics does in time instills traits that you might never realize you have. On the opposite side of the spectrum I”ve seen coaches and teachers that have the win at all cost mentality that does little to improve one’s character and those kids lost a great opportunity to improve in skills that would benefit them later in life. I hate to see a school not far from the coastal bend listed as “the most hated in Texas. Why do many believe that is true? To achieve that standard, what did they do and what did they give up to achieve that reputation? In that endeavor did his athletes gain or lose something very important in their lives? High school football is a short time of our lives but it can change lives later in life, and that is why when a superintendent looks to hire a leader of their teams they must hire the right individual with not only with a great history of coaching but also have the ability to instill quality traits into his athletes and students.

Yep I have sat kids on the bench for disciplinary reasons knowing it may cost us a game to teach life lessons and to keep my integrity and character before many times. Needless to say the discipline issues typically get fixed real quick when the rest of the team sees a star player sitting a game for a stupid choice they made and treated like everyone else. If you hold them to the standard you set and tell them you are going to hold the team too, they fall in line... that helps build programs; quality, employable, high integrity, high character young men; and wins typically come with that.
