So I'm suddenly not into the idea of a new stadium anymore at least not from the description of what it would be. It would seat LESS than it does now at 6200 as opposed to the 6985 it currently seats. It would have 4200 seating on the Home side and 2000 on the visitors side and cost $39 million. Google Melissa's new stadium which is amazing and only cost $35 million, seats 10000 and looks like a college stadium and you'll understand the disappointment. SMH i don't get it. It might be the architect that is designing and building it. How much would the property by the airport cost the school district?

I'm guessing the $14 million difference is the cost of that property. The only way to salvage this nonsense and plain design is to at least leave the endzone seating alone. That's the only way building a smaller than current stadium would make sense.

Alice is now in my sales territory and I’ve spent the better of the last six weeks all over Alice and the outlying area. You can tell the City government is struggling with their own budget issues. The streets are not in good shape, and there are many abandoned buildings that need the wrecking ball. The ISD has nothing to do with it, but that doesn’t keep some in their own mind Alice has other issues to address and the detractors will hammer that price tag I’d love to see you all get a new stadium, but putting it out there by the airport is questionable. They need to use the existing site and just teardown down the grandstands and leave the end zone seating. I bet for under $30 million they could build two replacement grand stands and the the concessions, new lighting, locker rooms, etc. They could start on the demo immediately after the last home game and probably have it done for the first game or at least sometime in fall. I’ve been able to meet some pretty nice folks over there and they welcome me into their shops and places of business. I don’t tell them I’m from Calallen though. lol!

Unless they at least will keep the endzone seating as part of it then I absolutely hope the bond FAILS.

I imagine most of the cost would be the demolition of the concrete and hauling it off. Then all new electrict plumbing and communications need to be set up from the start like new. Main thing is would they keep the grass. Just improve the drainage and field dome. I always liked playing at Alice back in the day. Nice Green soft lush grass. GP has a nice full middle school stadium. Said sticking my tounge out.

I'm pretty sure that stadium was part of a $400m+ bond that was approved back in 2021. Just so you know, construction costs are up between 50%-75% since 2021. Also, I highly doubt that entire facility was done on the $35m they talk about because there is no way in hell that entire complex was finished for $35m. NO WAY We used to do our part of the work on schools 4 years ago for anywhere between $15-$20 per square foot. Today they are $40-$55 sq/ft depending how much goes into them and what level of materials are specified. I drove by 10-15 gas stations this morning on my way in. The cheapest diesel I saw was $3.65 and most were $3.70 or better. 4 years ago today it was under $2/gal.

Agree Keep the endzone seating if it is still in good shape and take down the two sides and rebuild. Build it for 6,200 now but do it so that both sides can easily be added on to in the future.

Maybe the $35 number was what was used from the bond? Still I stand behind my complaint that I don't want a stadium that seats less and has a visitors side looking like that.

Can alice hang with the new district? Miller G-P Vic West? The CC schools are hit and miss imo. Carroll being the better. Ray king Moody are about the same. Playing those 3 will be better than what the valley district was last year.

might as add Carroll depending on their progress It’s year 3 of the new coaching staff and school/facilities at Carroll. The program is definitely heading in the right direction and this year should be start of “the proof is in the pudding”. Carroll was young last season. Several key junior starters will be back as seniors…. and the upcoming sophomore class was district champion as freshman this past fall. We’ll be breaking in a new qb, so there will be growing pains with that I’m sure… but overall, I’d count 2024 Carroll as a playoff contender in this district.
