If you need fertilizer for your grass field, GPJohn can probably furnish it for you. I understood there were less injuries with gras and been told I was wrong. The turf may be better in rainy weather. The Portland city softball field a Has turf on all four fields and when my great grand daughter his to the out field the ball rolls all the way to the fence. The Pee Wee field is turf. Are you suggesting GPJohn is full of manure?

The truth is gpjohn has more good insight info at GP than most people. gpjohn has some good connections. bluecat comes up with a lot of news. My family in Portland does not keep up with the news very much. There is another retread administrator retiring. GP still has a lot of teachers and coaches with tenure that are in their comfort zone and hard to unload. I think that is a problem in a lot of places. I went through school in the fifty's and my teachers all loved to teach. If a teacher does not have passion for the job, they have no business teaching.

Speaking of manure, did you know that the manure spreader is the only piece of ag equipment the dealer won’t stand behind 😁

It amazes me how many baseball and softball fields have went to turf even in the infield with just a small dirt circle around each base... I especially never thought softball would go that direction... I like real grass fields, but I understand the cost savings of the artificial grass they use now... Which is the exact opposite with most colleges . If you want to host a Softball regional or Super regional from what I understand, you can’t have turf infield and outfield. Foul territory can be turf for some odd reason like it is at UT. There is only a handful of college baseball teams at the D1 level who have turf and right off my head I think two of them are here in Texas with that being Tech and UT. More of your smaller schools have turf . But the same no turf rule for regional and supers doesn’t apply to baseball for some odd reason. There has been some chatter UT might go back to grass for DKR when they join the SEC since only Mizzou has turf in the SEC. It will be interesting to see in Disch Faulk goes grass too. But I dont think I’ve ever seen it with natural grass as it was built in the 1970’s when turf was revolutionary and was even installed in places like the Orange Bowl. Watching the Oregon v oral Roberts super regional, Oregon has an all turf field. Only dirt is the mound. They have turf on the bases even. That's so crazy to me! I'd definitely not want to slide on that stuff!!!!

The evolution of turf over the years has been something to see over the years.in the mid 70”s we played a Daryl Royal field at UT and I hated it. That turf was hard as a rock and it burned up your elbows and knees when you fell on it. I also ran track on the UT track that was just orange rubberized track.on a hot day if you stood in one place for over a minute you could see an imprint of your track shoe in it. Texas State had a turf that had fine black plastic grit in the field turf and that crap would get all over you when you hit that turf. The newest turf is so much better than it was decades ago.

Yeah that black ground up rubber they said was supposed to symbolize dirt to give the artificial grass a look of the real stuff lol... man it is like clothing magnets though... I am glad there is no more astroturf!!! That crap would skin you alive!

I recall back in the 80s when I was in school a few valley teams made it far enough in the playoffs to get the honor of playing in Alamo Stadium, AKA the Rock Pile. They had the the 70s era Astroturf that resembled the putting greens at a mini golf course. They insisted on going up a day early so they could get a practice on it. Some of the remarks I heard was they might as well have saved that day and just practiced on the parking lot to get the same effect. Lol! Same was true for almost every baseball team in the state who made it to the state tournament before Dell Diamond was built and diverted most of the games there to not conflict with UTs usual appearance in the baseball regionals. Nobody played baseball on a regular basis on turf at the high school level back then so at least everyone was on equal footing. When UT replaced the older generation of turf at the Disch in the 2000’s, the designers forgot to account for some sort of transition on the warning tracks and foul territory and oh boy some of the collisions with the outfield fence and foul territory fences were fantastic highlight videos. Not so much if you were the victim of a fence that got in the way. I think the following season, they replaced the artificial” dirt”with real dirt until the turf companies came up with a solution.

My parents were born in the 50s and were teachers all their lives. Try harder next time. I also have common sense and can look things up. Don't tell me dealing with a 50s student is the same as dealing with a modern student. Even you don't believe that you just feel like being a d1ck.

That's good when it comes to music but for anything else it's useless.

Man in 2001 when Beeville played Sam Houston in round 1, we played at the Rock Pile. That field looked awful. The turf looked like it was the original astroturf from the 60s or 70s, holes in it, faded, and just about as soft as asphalt... It wasn't until they finally updated that place years later, that the field got some serious updates. We spent the next 2 rounds in the alamodome with the artificial grass that had the black "dirt" pieces in it... even us coaches were trying to get that crap out of our clothes lol...
