So you and Rhoades became pretty good friends while he was there at GP and were on a first name basis with one another? Actually we talked quite a bit since we attended the same church. Vito Duran usually started up the conversation after church each Sunday. Good coach with little support at GP. Just came to GP at the wrong time. Does Vito still do the radio for you all? Ask him if Calallen recruits next time you see him. LOL!

He only does home games now and he did last week against Moody. Marty Akins came back to GP to attend the game and Vito interviewed him at halftime.

Lake Belton 28 Cameron Yoe 14. Yoe 0-4 Correct. Yoe is 0-4. 3A 1 #21 But before we condemn Rhoades to the gallows let's look at who they played. Lago Vista - 3A 1 #22, 2-1 Bellville- 4A 2 #6, 4-0 Franklin- 3A 2 #1, 4-0 Lake Belton- Lake Belton, First year playing a Outlaw schedule, Not yet listed as a UIL School for football on the app. Projects to be at least 4A when they start Varsity play. They are 4-0 beating Mexia, Arlington Heights, Poteet and Yoe. So before we say Gregory Portland's failures were all Rick Rhoades fault. And look at his struggles at YOE. They have been challenging teams that look to be pretty good. I mean that's a 10-1 record their opponents have so far this season. Why don't we leave Rick alone and just chalk it up to GP not keeping their promises until Coach Davis got here. If they had it's very likely they would have been better sooner instead of waiting until now.

Coach Rhoades got used to losing at GP and some habits are hard to break. That Yoe program wasn't winning before he got there. He's having to rebuild just like he wanted to do at GP. The difference is the Admin and Fanbase is behind him at YOE. Not being and Obstacle like GP. Give him a year or two and Yoe will be making deep playoff runs every year. He didn't forget how to coach. But I Guess the Bashing from the GP faithful Must continue. No Matter how flawed.

No,no, this thread was started to just track his results and I suspect every GP fan wishes him the beat of luck. There is only speculation on some of the things that went on at GP. The fact is, Coach Rick Rhoades was a complete failure at GP and excuses about he did not get support does not substantiate signing on for additional years. It is complicated. Thank God and Greyhound he and DR. Paul Clore are gone.
Notice aTracker has been started on Coach Simper by a GP fan and Coach Simper was never at GP.

Good or bad does not have anything to do with it. A certain school board member leaked that a former GP coach was instrumental in the hiring of Coach Rhoades over several good candidates. We find out that Coach George Harris was long time friend of Coach Rhoades since they were both at Refugio. 2 plus 2 = Coach George Harris who had a bunch of friends that were GP assistants. We don't know what kind of deal was made but Coach Rhoades was the highest paid coach in the district. Did he sell his soul to the detriment of GP players? There was a exodus of GP players to Sinton, Odem, Calallen , Refugio, and other places. There is a lot of speculation but he is history.
Coach Rhoades was a good coach at other places beside Yoe. He was a bad coach at GP.

You are joking I hope. He will build Yoe back into a powerhouse again provided he has the talent to do so coming up. Thereโs no doubt that Rick will get them back on the radar soon. Even when Rick was at GP I continued to watch what was going on at Yoe. A lot of his staff have moved on and his program that he developed at Yoe was changed quite a bit. Itโs going to take some time to rebuild Yoe and hire the right coaches he needs. I just have to wonder if Rick was given the tools and authority that Davis has been given in his 1st season, what could Rick accomplished? [br Wfcoyote, I think I said the difference between athletes at Troy and Cameron Yoe was like the difference between Apples ๐ and Oranges ๐. Not much different from Night and Day! Cameron Yoe had a Wide Receiver named Deedee Westbrook. He went to Oklahoma and finished 3rd in the Heisman Voting. I am having a hard time remembering any wide receiver from South Texas coming close to his Credentials. Coach Rhodes is a Very Good Coach. I think he was trying to do things with Go Athletes they just were not capable of doing. There is a Reason there are not any State Champions in South Texas since the 1959 Ray Texans and the 1960 Miller Buccaneers in the larger classes and itโs Not Because the Coaches are Not as Good as the Coaches in the Central, Northeastern Part of the State. Just my Opinion.
