My cousin spent most of his early years under a winning coach and program at Blanco. I sent him a warning the players at Edna better be ready for hard work.

His first head coaching job was taking over for Brent Davis after he left when Sinton made it to state championship game. Mitchell had three solid years in Sinton, his 4th and 5th season cause him to move on to Sealy. At Sinton he went 43-17 and at Sealy 48-19 for combine 91-36. Since then he's 20-27 with stops at Beeville and Manor.

Not sure of the situation at Beeville but his first two years at Manor they got moved up to 6A. Now the last two years got moved back down to a very tough 5AD1 district. At Edna he will have good talent and boys with good work ethics.

The sub varsities in most sports could only field one team and their facilities were horrible. I recall watching a baseball game at the mostly condemned (but now renovated) CBC baseball field. He helped get their bond issues passed to renovate and planted the seeds for their now current revival which Bomar and Soza benefited from. And their other programs show progress too.

This is Soza's 2nd tour there. He did pretty well there before Mitchell arrived. I agree that the facilities needed improvement and that was discussed when Soza left for Alice.

Wasn’t there someone between Soza and Mitchell because there is no way Soza would have allowed the program to hit rock bottom like it did.

I know before Soza left he was pushing for the facilities to be upgraded and the administration was receptive to the idea. I don't know why it took so long.

One Edna Coach left to become HC at Woodsboro and another left Edna to become offensive line coach at Marble Falls. They ran the Slot-T at MF and he coached the Slot-T at Edna.

During the Moses era, Beeville had trouble fielding full sub varsities in basketball and baseball and football numbers were down. Next to your open date, this was a game where most of the opponents looked forward to resting some starters and get the bench playing time as Beeville was really that bad during this span. They shared the baseball field at Coastal Bend Community College for which the entire grandstand was condemned and you had to sit on the outfield foul lines and use porta potties to relive yourself. You could tell it was once a a great little stadium, but it had not been touched in decades with a paint brush. That stadium has since been totally rebuilt thanks to CBC restarting their sports programs and is actually pretty nice, but Beeville ISD went all in and built new baseball and softball fields by their high school and renovated their football stadium as well. Mitchell set it up nicely for Bomar to come right in and later for Soza to do his thing. The baseball program was able to attract a Calallen coach who ran the middle school athletic program and was an assistant on high school football and baseball teams. Many of us would love for him to comeback when Chappy retires from the baseball program to take over it along with being given a good slot on the football staff again. Kids who played under him at middle school would have walked over broken glass and burning coals to get a chance to play for him at the high school level if that chance would have been afforded to them as they respected him that much and still do as grads years later. I can say as a parent of some of his former middle school players, I would be a strong voice in favor of bringing him back to lead one of our programs again (he was a heck of basketball player in his day too and would do well as a HC in our program) . And I know that is shared by a number of us.
