This is going to be a heck of a tough district!
There will be at least 2 very good teams sitting at home round 1 of the playoffs. Damn

Smithson Valley Schedule: SA Roosevelt SA Brennan SA Madison Boerne Champion Pieper Bye Wagner Seguin New Braunfels MacArthur Victoria East
As has become the custom, Coach Hill schedules 6A teams for non-district part of the schedule. I know Brennan will be very good this year, Roosevelt was pretty good last year and Madison was down a little. I'm not sure what the latter two are bringing back in 2024, but they usually have some good Athletes and large lineman, so will present a challenge in any case.
The district schedule is pretty tough, but that's true for every team in this district!

DAMNNNN Well, SV is used to it - we almost always have opened with Wagner when we have been in a district with them - I thought that was somewhat of an advantage, to get them before they really got rolling! I seem to recall both B-C and Pieper being pretty experienced last year, so they may be a little young and it might be to SVs advantage to play them early. New Braunfels, with an experienced roster and a new coach is a tough draw late in the season. SV will be introducing a whole new offensive line this year, as most of the two deep at that position group is graduating, mostly new receivers and a new QB, so SV will be facing some of the same issues. On Offense, SV is bringing back a starting Tight End and running back - that's it. On defense, 2 DL, 1 LB and 2 Safeties. There is a smattering of players who weren't starters who played quite a bit on both Offense and Defense, but on the whole this team does not have as much experience as recent squads. Coach Hill and staff do a great job of reshuffling the deck every year, and some players will change positions and/or sides of the ball. Should be interesting to see what they come up with!

Well looks like Texas Football named this district - top to bottom - the toughest in the state in 5A D1. I feel like MacArthur is the only weak team in the district.

She said the football parents she works with are pretty upset he is leaving. Hope this works out for NB well.

I’ve hesitated to post about this because there is nothing more deflating than discussing a project that never ends up happening. But now that’s it’s a sure thing, let’s discuss.
New Braunfels ISD voters went to the polls on 5/4/2024 to vote on three bond propositions. I am shocked to announce that all three bond propositions passed decisively.
Let’s break down how this impacts New Braunfels ISD from an athletics perspective:
Prop A: Approves Phase 2 (the final phase) of the reconstruction of New Braunfels HS. Capacity of the current 10-12 campus to the soon-to-be 9-12 campus will increase from 2,100 to 2,400. The new campus will be a 3-story campus, freeing up valuable land area and doubling the parking capacity at New Braunfels HS, which includes Unicorn Stadium, which is on campus. Everyone is aware of the parking issues there.
Prop B: Approves $2.5 million for updates to Unicorn Stadium, including new field turf, new sound system for video scoreboard and updates to the existing press box.
Most notably, another $40 million was approved for an on-campus stadium for 7,000 spectators (with room for future expansion) at the new Long Creek HS, which opens in Fall 2024.
Thank you to all NBISD voters who made this possible.

Long Creek Dragon Stadium will be built for it to be expandable. Presumably up to 10,000 (similar to Unicorn Stadium). The capacity of LCHS should be 2,200, so just short of 6A numbers. BUT, NBISD does not intend to change boundaries that have been set for Long Creek. So if the school exceeds capacity, then they will probably expand it instead. That’s why New Braunfels will drop from 3,000 to about 1,300-1,400 in a few years… for it to grow into its more permanent attendance zone.

Victoria East to Boerne Champion, 153 miles 2 hr 45 min drive...closest school is Seguin, 93 miles 1 hr 36 minutes. No doubt it sucks for VE. This is not the first time nor will it be the last a CB team gets put in with an SA area district. CC Carroll and King both spent a couple seasons playing in one about 10 years ago.
