Rematch of last years QF matchup in which CS prevailed 26-21. Both teams are better this year so it should be a great game.
Smithson Valley so far in playoffs:
41-25 vs Georgetown 20-17 vs Magnolia West
Both games SV had lead slip little bit. Possible injury concerns for their star receiver Dubose
College Station so far in playoffs:
51-28 vs Bernie Champion 45-21 vs Magnolia
Just a force to be reckoned with. Can score in a hurry.
Keys to victory:
SV- Keep CS offense off field, limit explosive plays, and don't give CS extra possessions (turnovers/penalties)
CS- Win the line of scrimmage both sides of ball, run the ball effectively to set up big plays in passing game (SV secondary has been suspect so far playoffs)

SV is a little more nicked up than just Freddie, hopefully they will have a full squad for this game. Last year's game was without our starting QB, although the backup (this years starter) played pretty well. The key point in last years game (outside the final 40 seconds) was the last 4 minutes of the first half - CS hit two explosive pass plays against the Rangers which put SV in a hole to start the 2nd half. SV probably wants to play with the lead (who doesn't?) as they are not a wide open passing offense. The Rangers need to defend the deep pass better than they have the last two weeks, which hadn't been a problem until lately. SV has been really good at forcing turnovers this year, they will probably need to win the turnover battle to win this game.

But in actuality if SV plays their game they will win, SV has good size on their lines and their front 7 is tough, so controlling the ball and containing CS is within your hands. And if CS plays their game of catch me if you can they'll put up the points. But you should give your QB more credit I think he can really throw the rock if you let him so playing from behind being one dimensional isn't a death sentence.

Good observations here so far. Most posters I have seen are giving the nod to CS, but I think SV will look at the issues from the last 2 weeks and come into this game prepared. I also think the winner of this game will be playing Aledo for the state championship, and Aledo doesn’t look as unbeatable as they did last year.

I think our QB is fine if he has all his weapons, it's more the design of our passing game - not to cast shade, but almost everything we do is play action. We also employ a lot of 2 and 3 man route concepts, so we really don't stretch the field both vertically and horizontally. If we are successful running the ball (and we usually are), play action is an advantage. We just don't use much drop back/spread them out concepts.

I agree that the winner of this game has a great shot at playing for the title but it may not be Aledo. Longview and Forney in R2 are both going to be hard outs for anyone. Right now, if the LV RB is good to go I think they are the best team in the state. What worries me most about this SV/CS matchup is the lackluster offensive performance last week by SV. 20 points is almost exactly the average that Magnolia W team gave up against their other 11 opponents. And, the good teams Mag W played lit them up. Magnolia 44, Fulshear 53, and Friendswood put up 48 on them. SV will have to have a much better showing out of the offense this week to stay in this game with CS. The offense has to produce drives and keep the defense rested. 3 & outs would be a killer for that SV defense against CS. I'm picking CS in this game just because I'm worried about the SV offense............and maybe SV will prove me wrong which I'd really love. Go Rangers!

I think the winner of this game will play for the region championship! Honestly it wouldn't surprise me whichever team wins. I'd think CS has a better chance of winning comfortably but SV is no slouch. Those games are over. I plan on watching. So I'm cheering for a 9 OT txhsfb classic.

Being only 15 miles away from Hutto, I’ll be sitting on the visitor side rooting for CS then heading home to watch the D11 Doubleheader of CP vs A&M Consol. on NFHS. Gotta love TX HS Playoff football!

Man these games are really exciting in R3. CP v Consol and SV v CS. I'd love to see CP v CS in the region finals or CP v SV either one. Being a fan of the black rain defensive mind set, I'm definitely pulling for CP to win that one. SV and CS are just great teams so that's going to be a great game!
Being that I picked CS all the way in the brackets I need CS to win it though lol...

Love Smithson Valley, but this is going to be a really tough game. SV will need to chew a lot of time off the clock with long scoring drives to win this. Their offense isn't nearly good enough to win in a shootout. SV will also need to win the turnover battle. They do have the coaching and style to do these things, but this one is going to be very tough. They'll have to play way better than last week.
