Oh, and by the way, this years AH team is way better than the team that beat GP 31-8 in last years playoffs How would you know? Their big win against Brackenridge? AH barely got by Seguin. This is exactly what I was thinking until 2 days ago! I saw the cal preps projection for AH & GP, but this is what it says for AH/Lockhart right now: neutral field [2023] Alamo Heights (San Antonio, TX) 56 (95%), [2023] Lockhart (TX) 31 (5%) (25 point spread) Actual score: Alamo Heights 69 Lockhart 21 (48 point spread) Pieper only beat Lockhart by 27 and LH only beat them by 15. The good news is that AH did most of their damage to Lockhart on the ground with 438 of their 527 total yards. I think GP struggles badly against teams that can really throw the ball and in this case AH is a run heavy offense. Total yards for the season for the Mules is 5,018 and 3,752 of that has been on the ground. I also don't believe AH has any kind of shutdown defense either. That all said, I see AH as 14-21 point favorites in this one and trust me when I say it pains me to type that out cuz they ain't my favorite for sure. lol

If they were a big time passing team I'd be a lot more concerned about it.

Okay - also: neutral field [2023] Alamo Heights (San Antonio, TX) 42 (72%), [2023] Gregory-Portland (Portland, TX) 34 (28%) Eight points is a long way from the lock you seemed to be predicting. Eight points is one blown coverage. Maybe I misunderstood your previous post, but I took the statement "Hopefully GP can keep it going. This on paper looks like a good test for them." to mean AH doesn't stand a chance of competing with GP. I am no fan of the AH program (especially after what happened last year) - I just wanted to state that they wouldn't be a pushover, and probably should be considered the favorite. I don't mean to be snarky, and I apologize if I misunderstood your post.

If they were a big time passing team I'd be a lot more concerned about it. That is exactly why I like this matchup better than last year. The GP run defense is night & day better than last season. No one is dumb enough to believe AH can’t pass effectively if needed. Roma also was a run first team averaging 321 yds per game with that 220 lbs RB. In the middle of 3rd Qtr they had 50 yards. They typically threw 4-5 passes per game, against GP they had 25 or more mostly unsuccessful. Of course AH is a better team than Roma but they will not run over the GP run defense. What team is going to show up? The one that knows it’s won or done, and that’s one hell of a motivator.

They have lots of speed and athleticism. Tough game for GP, but I'm wishing them the best!

AH gave Lockhart their worst beatdown of the year, and Lockhart faced some damn good teams in Davenport, LH and Peiper.

This will be a tough game. Lockhart had five loses to playoff teams. Four of which are still alive. AH made it look easy against Lockhart. AH running back is explosive and their Dline and Oline are athletic. GP definitely needs to be ready to play four quarters of mistake free football. Glad game is at the Alamo dome - no excuses for both teams - weather-wise.
Lockhart 35 Southwest 41 (CCMV 29 Southwest 7) Lockhart 38 Davenport 65 Lockhart 45 VMHS (SA) 48 Lockhart 41 Liberty Hill 56 Lockhart 21 Pieper 48 Lockhart 21 AH 69

Man I want GP to win this one so bad! I am not a fan of AH and the snobs there... it's going to be a tough one because AH is a tough team this season again. They are also playing for coach Savanich this season now from what I was told by some of my coaching colleagues that made it to his memorial.

The good news for GP is they have a smart coaching staff. Hard nosed football players that are overachievers! No doubt they will leave it ALL out on the field. Give 'em hell GP!

Here is the AH/Lockhart game in full for anyone who wants to watch it. I'm gonna scroll through it this morning as I've yet to see anything on AH except highlights this year so far.
EDIT: OK, I watched it up until it was 48-21 Mules. My take is Lockhart had their chances to be right in this game and it could have easily been 21-21 at the half but they missed a wide open double pass at the end of the 2nd quarter to tie it and then AH scored. Lockhart's defense is NOT good. AH's run defense is pretty good but they have holes in the secondary and now I see why they had to win a shootout over Seguin in week 1 and why some of the SAISD teams scored points on them!
AH's offense is solid and they have several kids that make plays. That said, I don't see anything here that is just all-world at all. Solid offense yes, great, no way.
For GP to win they will have to play really good run defense and force AH to throw to beat them. That said, if they can force them to throw then the GP secondary will have to really step their game up. I can see this being a close game if GP's defense can tighten things up in their secondary and if GP can throw the ball well. If Dooms and his receivers are on time and can get it going this could be a really good game. I don't see GP having a big game running the football.

All season long I knew something just was off with the GP passing game. Last week the GP QB”s dad came on the forum and exclaimed that his son had a shoulder blade injury early in the season and as such he had to wear extra padding to protect his shoulder and he could not throw with the accuracy and velocity that he usually throws the ball. Not until last week was he able to take off the extra padding and Reed looked great throwing the ball. Reed had gotten the strength and accuracy back and he looked just like last season. I have no doubt GP can and will run against that defense and Winder the OC threw in a few wrinkles in the GP passing game and it looked good.

I watched the film of this game and another and I saw the exact same thing. Load the box and make them beat you in the passing game. This is not the same type of offense Boerne or Flour Bluff presented. Alamo Heights is run heavy and does not present the level of WR play as those two teams. This should be a competitive game.
