Going with PLC . From what I'm hearing they are much improved over last year . With Parker , Salinas and Campos in the back field things should be interesting.

Going with Sandcrabs. Key members are back. The experience they have will be too much for Stafford.

Per the Vic Adv Whitaker seemed pretty happy with PLC's scrimmage with Halletsville. He mentioned a few mental errors and fumbles that need to be cleaned up but seemed happy with the experience he has coming back.
If those young men start off this season like they ended last season they will be a tough out. Looking forward to seeing The Crabs in action this season!

The Sandcrabs football team completed their final tune-up of the pre-season when they faced Hallettsville in a scrimmage last week.
Head Coach Richard Whitaker said he felt like his team dominated play, but also had some turnovers and mental errors that will need to be corrected before Friday night’s opener against Stafford.
“We thought we controlled things very well,” Whitaker said. “Last year, we ran 15 plays before we could even get a first down against them. This time around, we took the ball right down the field and scored on our first drive, even with some penalties. Our second team had a couple of scoring drives, then our first team came out and added another one as well. In the controlled part of the scrimmage, it was complete domination by our kids. We were very, very pleased, aside from some penalties. So there are some things we’ve got to clean up.”
In the second part of the scrimmage, turnovers led directly to touchdowns by Hallettsville. The opponents added another scoring drive later as well.
“That was the only offensive drive we gave up all night long,” Whitaker said. “So I was very pleased with our defense.”
A day before the scrimmage, promising sophomore Holton Hadley hyperextended his knee and will be out a few weeks. The injury caused some lineup reshuffling and Whitaker said he was pleased to see players step up to fill the role.
Athyn Morales had the first TD of the night on a counter play. Izaiah Cabrales added a pair of touchdowns for the second unit, including a long TD run.
Maverick Cortez added a receiving touchdown for the second unit as well.
Marquise Farrow had a TD run to cap the scoring for the second unit.
Fischer Franck hauled in a long TD for the starters, and Jayce Campos added a touchdown run for the first team as well.
“All in all we saw some good things, but we have to eliminate those turnovers and penalties,” Whitaker added.

Calhoun Head Coach Richard Whitaker won’t use the word “revenge” when prepping for the Stafford Spartans in the season opener Friday night.
The Spartans took advantage of mental errors all night long, in route to a 35-7 win last season.
“We don’t necessarily emphasize the outcome itself,” Whitaker said. “We’ll watch that film with the kids and they’ll see when we stood up, we got whipped. When we played slow, they beat us to the punch. They’re going to see the things that we have to do to be successful. That’s the point you make. It’s not necessarily a revenge factor. It’s a point of they are a great football team with great talent. And we have to do things the right way to have success, instead of doing things the wrong way and looking foolish. There’s no room for error against these guys. So there are some things from last year’s film that can help us Friday night.”
Stafford once again will field a team full of impressive athletes this season.
“It never changes with them,” Whitaker laughed. “Those guys look like a million bucks. They’re tall, they’re big, and they’re fast. I love playing them. I think it’s good for our kids to go against a team that’s athletic like Stafford is. It makes us play fast, because if you don’t, they’ll embarrass you.”
Offensively, it starts with senior running back Jamaal Wiley, 6-0, 215, who has already committed to the University of Cal Berkley next year.
“He runs with a lot of power and is going to be a threat that we’ll have to contain,” Whitaker said. “You’ve got to get your hands on him early and not let him a head of steam.”
Executing better on offense will be a big point of emphasis for the Crabs in this game, after struggling in last year’s matchup.
“Defensively, they really got after us,” Whitaker said. “Some of those kids graduated, but they have a really outstanding defensive lineman coming back. He has been wreaking havoc in their scrimmages. He’s very explosive off the ball. Plays with a lot of quickness and strength. Their linebackers and secondary guys are really fast. They won the regional track meet last year, so they’ve got a lot of speed. If you take bad angles, they’ll beat you to the spot. You’ve got to be precise.”
Whitaker said this contest may be more about playing like the Crabs did in their scrimmage against Ingleside, as opposed to the errors they suffered against Hallettsville.
“We have really got to clean up those penalties,” he said. “And absolutely no turnovers. Those kind of things against Hallettsville, I thought we dominated the scrimmage outside of the mistakes we made. Those little things can make a huge difference on Friday night against a team like Stafford. If we’re going to have a chance Friday night, we’ve got to eliminate that stuff.”
The season opener will be the first of three consecutive home games for the Sandcrabs to open the season.
Whitaker said he doesn’t recall a similar scheduled enjoyed by the program during his time at Calhoun.
“It’s nice, we’ve got our new turf out there,” he said. “We’re excited. We hope our fans are excited. We want to come out and put on a show. Show our fans that our kids have worked extremely hard this summer.”

Anybody from PL have a rundown on this one. The parts I saw, PLC looks better than last season at this point in the season. Granted I didn't watch the entire game, but the parts I watched, I think they'll be good to go in district.

Anybody from PL have a rundown on this one. Stafford scored on a 70 td pass on the first play of the game, and then Calhoun did a pretty good job of holding Stafford in check the rest of first half. Stafford’s defense tightened up in the second half. Late in the game Stafford scored on a 60 yd td pass. Calhoun had two opportunities to drive the field and take the lead, both drives ended after bad penalties on Calhoun killing their drives. It was a good game Calhoun just couldn’t put it together at the end of the game to get a victory. Calhoun has the talent to compete in every game this year and should have a chance at a district championship. What will hurt them is the same thing that always hurts them. Fumbles and bad penalties.
