The opportunity was missed when Coach Anastacio came on board. GP needed to pull a Odessa Permian and fire every coach and Coach Anastacio hire a new staff. That is pretty much what Coach Brent Davis is doing are has done. DR Paul Clore and his political machine was in charge and favors were granted to parents that that had a lot of stroke and votes as well as coaches that had a lot of family that were voters. It was not just athletics that went South under DR.Clore, it was also education. The new super has made changes and more to come. When Super W.C. Andrews retired, things began to change. Coach Akins may have been asked to retire. The Band directory may have been forced to leave about the same time. The new G-P superintendent Leroy Johnson, and business manager Clay Gillis were killed when their twin-engine plane crashed at Houston Hobby airport. Johnson had been superintendent for just over a year and was making progress with a new Bond passed. That same day the soft ball tea lost in the regional finals. 2 days before 15-year-old classmate, sophomore soccer player Jordan Kullman, was killed in a car wreck that injured three other students two days before the regional finals. The replacement was not a strong leader and then GP got DR.Paul Clore. Crazy but Clay Gillis was my 7th grade coach, his wife moved into the Carrol district where his two daughters graduated. Small world!

There was a lady appointed for interim super and she was not strong on athletics and well meaning fan Vito Duran was part of the political problem and had what he wanted, a Wing-T coach in Coach Tim Holt who was a disaster as AD. The Soccer moms battled Coach Holt to get the Soccer Coach fired. My grand daughter was on the best soccer team in the state and GP had the worst soccer coach ever at GP, Coach Holt was not the sharpest tool in the shed and athletics went the wrong direction. coach Holt moved around to a lot of places. We have beat on this dead dog but someone keeps bringing it up. The politicians at GP trashed GP athletics and politics is a problem at most schools but I have not seen a worse situation than GP in all my years.

I can name 4 school districts with worse politics... CCISD, TM, Robstown, and Killeen ISD. West Oso would come in there as well...

I do believe this will be a low scoring game but I think Redden passes for at least 200. Someone mentioned recently Karl was replaced by someone taller and faster. Redden is quite accurate and I know Calallen is good at stopping the run. This will be an interesting game for both teams for sure.

I don’t remember GP even passing much until the Boerne game. I’m going to go back and try to see how many passing attempts GP had in that game.

That was the game that definitely told me this team would have a good season last year. GP scored 3 quick tds before the half I think? Boerne ended up coming back to win but it remained close. Not sure what Boerne returns this season. Think they'll have their big QB back.

Ok TPOST, hmmm, I’m game to a M&G to down a shot or two for my old Bud 81. To be honest I don’t know how Davis will approach this game. Will he go all in to win this game or use it to get looks at many players trying to earn a roster spot on varsity. Rhoades every year used the first game for the latter reason which drove some of us GP fans nuts. Ok since no one else will ask the question I will. In GP we just went basically a decade of revolving door failures of having a good solid program even to the point of multiple years of not even making the playoffs. I was a funk I wouldn’t wish on any football program. Question; be honest, from the outside what did our perennial opponents really feel about the demise of a proud program to what GP turn into prior to the Davis hiring? More curiousity than feel in observing GP faithful oscillate between hope, short lived confidence and disappointment only to repeat the hire a new coach process over and over. Currently they appear to be in the giddiness of confidence cycle again. The giddiness..... :-))

One single injury to the QB or RB would severely hurt this years team. GP coaching staff definitely needs to be grooming some quality backups at those positions.

GP”s offense can and will score enough points to win games. The defense has to improve. I have no doubt that GP”s DC/AD will put together a much improved defense over last years squad.

I really like this game as a week 1 game for both teams. Win or lose both will find out things they will need to improve on. I'm also sure the kids on these teams know each other and nobody likes losing to their friends. Just a really good matchup to start the season.

And I second the sentiment of may all the athletes stay healthy and no team have serious injuries to anyone.

This one is one I am definitely intrigued by. I want Calallen to win it to start Campbell off right and to ease the natives minds. Although on the poll I voted GP because I feel like they have more momentum going into this season. I feel like it's going to be a low scoring contest with a lot of great defense both ways. I think it's going to come down to which kicker is more consistent. A missed extra point or two or a last second field goal will be the difference. 14-13, 17-13, 17-15 type game. I wouldn't be surprised if it went into OT either. One thing is for certain though, Wildcats will win this one 🤣🤣🤣🤣.... Agree on the low scoring part. I'd expect both defenses to be way ahead of the offenses. Just not sure which team wins it because I have a feeling it'll be that close. More in line with 21-20 or 20-17 type score is what I think.
