It's been a strong off-season for Calallen and the boys have worked hard. There is a lot of enthusiasm and excitement to ensure Steve has a great season in his first year as head coach. FYI - Kyle Chandler (Coach Eric Taylor from Friday Night Lights) was in Calallen today and a few of the boys got to meet him. He's going to be watching this game live streamed. The boys that met him today got a "Clear Eyes Full Hearts Can't Lose" outta him! It was so great! They need to do a movie!

I invited him down to meet Coach D and he graciously accepted. Rode his motorcycle down from Dripping Springs where he lives. He spent two hours with us and is the nicest most genuine guy. It was awesome! Oh and I should add - he's also extremely handsome also! 🤗

I don't know what to expect? It's a new era in Calallen for sure, but in many ways it doesn't feel like one. Its not a new era in Calallen. Its the same coaches as the previous 43 years. Sprinkle in some young blood. Callalen will be Calallen! If anything they will be better with a more open offensive scheame. Nothing is new except for a defensive view of an offensive scheame. Dont sandbag or act like Calallen had a whole new coaching staff come in. This is a good thing. South Texas football has beem dubbed weak and not worthy as of lately. Im not making a prediction. gP has alot of hes to fill from new faces and kids hurt. But the fact that yall are giving GP a chance is good for GP or you could be setting GP up for ridicule. We are on the same page. I was just commenting about the first game against you all and if the changes in the offensive scheme (again not abandoning anything) are apparent from the get go. Or do they show up gradually over the course of the season? GP is on the right track. Your Debbie Downers over there need take some preventative chill pills just in case you start off slow this season because of youth. Davis will get them up to where they need to be in short order. One thing I know most of you and especially FB Fan will miss is Coach D's annual doom and gloom report next week. LOL!

I said it last season after week 4 going into week 5 when we were about to face GP (after I had a chance to look at some GP video). I love your offensive play designs... and I knew you guys were going to be a heck of a team.
Fast forward 1 week and y'all convincingly knocked off Flour Bluff, and never lost again until Round 3... by only 3 points. That was a GP team that was filled with juniors at several key positions. Yes you lost a few great players to graduation... but the vast majority of those key players are still there... 1 year bigger, faster, stronger... as seniors.
Calallen is always going to Calallen... it's who they are.
But man, this GP team... 2022... It's one that I think we'll all be talking about for years and years. And the legend that is the 2022 GP Wildcat Football team starts by taking Calallen down in week 1.

I didn’t realize Chandler lived in Dripping Springs, super cool experience for you guys I’m sure.

I have a feeling Coach C will continue the tradition of the doom and gloom speech.

The cast was there at the game and we got to meet them. That was a cool experience. Even got to be on TV for like 10 seconds from the filming they were doing for the show. The funny thing about that whole situation was we were heavily favored going unto that game, but they donkey stomped us, but on the show they played it out that we won the game. You're right though that man is a nice guy as was the rest of the cast. They were all down to earth and friendly. My ex wife got all bent out of shape because she claimed I was flirting with the women on the cast because they were talking to us too and she wasn't allowed over there with them.

Week one matchup GP vs Cal last year showed a GP team still trying to learn the Davis program. Night & Day difference this season as far as experience. Sure GP has some holes to fill just as Cal but I’m sure Davis and his staff will have the boys ready. Davis knows Cal football with the best of them and he will have the team ready. I’ve never liked GP playing Cal in 1st game, but since GP only has one game to prepare for district, you do need a quality opponent for that game. I like GP”s chances in this game if the coaches keep the starters in the whole game, but if they need to rotate players to get a look at a few players, then all bets are off.

Uh GP has 5 non district games not 1. District is GP, FB, EE, Merc, Valley View and Brownsville Porter...5 games.

I’m not sure how good the GP Oline will be, but if it’s any good GP wins this game. This will be a good game to find out. Calallen usually has a pretty salty DL.

I got to meet Minka Kelly several years ago when she came over to Iraq on a USO tour. Got a good pic with her, I was being shy a standing somewhat close to her and she sucked me in for a big old hug. Super nice lady and TINY! They all look bigger on TV because she was all of 4’11 if that.

Let's just say the hug and wink I got from KC as he was leaving Thursday was really amazing. He told us some great FNL stories but was mostly interested in hearing Calallen football stories.
