I’ll take Crosby as the Region II champ. I really like what Prieto has done in his time up there. For what reason other than their Coach came from CC Vets? 16 games in 2020, 15 games in 2021. That’s hella hard.

They are in D1 now and there is a difference. Longview lost to Denton Ryan last year 33-37. D1 in an average year is going to have quite a few more teams in it that are better than the D2 schools with the exception sometimes being a great D2 team like some of Aledo's over the past decade. If Crosby wins R2, they will have earned it in a big way. And their prize for doing it will be having someone like D Ryan or Aledo waiting for them in the Semis.

And 5A2 Crosby lost to a very good 4A2 Carthage as well. How would Carthage fare VS Denton Ryan. It wouldn't be pretty. For Crosby and any other program that is moving up from Div 2 this year. Denton Ryan and Aledo will be very interesting over the next two years.

Especially the Ryan of the last two seasons.

Definitely would be a fun one.

I'll defer to you as an East Tx authority on txhsfb. At what point should "we" stop including Lufkin in the sentence of top tier teams/ programs? I see them get included year after year but they haven't done much lately.

I see them get included year after year but they haven't done much lately. Lufkin, historically, has always been a hit and miss program. Couple year stretch of greatness followed by average. Outlaw brought the best of that program out. I personally don’t think they’ll reach those heights ever again (consistently like that). The town is so much different than it was in the early 2000s. I didn’t buy the hype the last couple years that some said they would be, but never did I think they’d be as bad as they were last year. I do think that was just a off one type of bad. They have a really young group coming up that should be very good. How good, we’ll see. I do not think their current head coach is the guy that should be leading them anymore but eh, it’s on that administration for sticking with him. They do need to prove they’re going to be a top team before any praise comes their way though, I agree with that. I almost feel the same about us. 2018 has come and gone. We have one of the most talented groups of kids coming up. But our senior QB is not the answer and hasn’t been for three years. Is what it is. Honestly more excited for 2023 so that we don’t have to think about him leading us ever again.

I was one of those that believed Lufkin would have made some noise these past couple of seasons. Felt burned because I had faith lol. But no more! Learned my lesson.

They should be better this season, but they're still a year away imo from being a top 5 team in the Region. 2023 they should be very good but I still don't think Quick will be able to lead them to the Semis or anything.

7 Region II teams in DCTF Top 25 to start the season.
4 in the Top 10.
Definitely not going to be an easy path for anyone, but just looking at Longview's route (as I've posted on a couple other boards now) according to DCTF.. 1) Baytown Lee (meh) 2) Frisco Wakeland (#25) 3) Crosby (#6) 4) Frisco Lone Star (#5) 5) Denton Ryan (#2) or Aledo (#3) 6) College Station (#4).
I mean...goodness.
