Oh hell yeah that is a great hire for sure.
I think TCU lost their damn minds letting him go!
And I can't even imagine what he could do with the talent that has come through the 40 acres while he was at TCU winning with 2 & 3 star kids!

But if I'm Sark I'm not hiring someone people are going to call for to take my HC spot, I (Sark) stumble out of the gate or have another OU debacle. Especially with the move to the SEC still in play for '24 or '25. The longhorns cant be going into the SEC with a rebuild or questionable HC in mind or they will be swimming in cement boots.

I seriously doubt Sark had any say, but I agree. I'm betting Patterson will end up as coach after next year.

I would just like to get that kina gig as a college football advisor for a cool 7 figure salary with no real pressure or responsibilities.

Amen brother but the sad truth is that is literally pocket change to a university like UT. Their annual budget is well in excess of $3,000,000,000/year and just in athletics generated revenue they take in nearly a quarter billion a year! lol Hell, the $70m or $80m buyout to go early to the SEC is nothing for them so I'm wondering why it wasn't spent already. Hell, if TU could say they were SEC right now that #5 recruiting class may have moved to #1 according to Pico and Chino because the SEC brand is so tainted with azz kissing from the media world.

So yea there could be some strategic thinking here. I think a more immediate move would be if Sark thinks the Defense needs more work after Spring Ball, he might shuffle the deck and make Paterson DC. He no doubt can coach up defense. He did some fantastic work at TCU with defensive rosters which were not necessarily stacked with four or five star talent.

From my understanding, UT is ready to go tomorrow to the SEC and the money would be wired and they be gone. The hang up is OU and the SEC wants both to move over at the same time if the early exit occurs. If OU doesn’t have the cash, they should go get a bridge loan from an Oklahoma Bank and do it.

If he wanted him as the DC it would have already been a done deal. Patterson is way better than the DC they already have.

I agree I don't think Sark had a single thing to do with this hire whatsoever. You can bet your azz it got Sark's attention though!

However it does allow Sark to pivot if he needs to whether during spring ball or in the upcoming season.. And of course it gives Del Conte an easy pick if he has to make that decision. There were a few big money donors who wanted Patterson when they hired Charlie.

And of course competition is a hell of a motivator no matter the profession and knowing there is a proven coach in the same building will not let him rest!

Patterson will be the HC if Sark has another bad season... but that's not happening. Texas is winning the Big XII and getting in the playoff in 2022. It's more likely Patterson is the next HC of the aGgiEs in 2024 following some more underachieving aGgiE seasons in 2022 and 2023.
