This should be interesting......
One way they "could" reduce costs is by redrawing their attendence zones so all of their schools could drop to 4A or close one (Miller) and redraw them to boost them all the 5A. Let's just say the Victoria's move up in 2012 and with Moody, Ray (both back in 5A), King, and Caller , they would have a six team district right there. Non districts could be played against the local 4a's and bam, your travel costs go down.

Due to the draconian budget cuts we will see from Austin, we all will experience a change in athletic budgets and it ain't just travel will be on the chopping block. The wave thats building is looking like a participation fee or reduced programs in all extracurricular activities.

my guess is that within the next couple of years there will be a fee to play sports or any other extra curricular activity. Band, choir, debate teams, all UIL activities. Which will potentially open up a whole nuther can of worms. What happens if Johnny's parents pay a fee, then Johnny does not play for whatever reason? What about the kids whose parents cannot afford to pay?

The new southside school is going to replace Carrol (and be called Carrol I think). So that will leave the northern parts of the Carrol and King attendence zones for Moody and Ray to receive new students because they will have to shift and redraw the Carrol and King zones to accomodate the new Carrol. But, yes Miller should be closed. To see how fast they dropped from 5A to 3A should be the writing on the wall to see where the population is going. No too many people are moving to that area and likewise because it's made the underperfroming list on both the state and/or federal levels, students can transfer to neighoring school district like West Oso or TM or to another CCISD school.

Maybe I should move the family to the Miller district so I can ensure a top 10% or 8% of their class for my kids. My daughter has a 98 average and is ranked # 60 in her class which puts her in about the top 12% at FB. I know of a few students who have left FB to CCISD to make sure they get their shot at UT or A&M.

Sad but everytime they put their finger on the scale to "help" it screws things up.

The current Carrol is not too far from Moody. I bet the boudaries will shift more towards Moody from Carrol than from King to Ray. They still need to set the wheels in motion to close Miller.

I thought I heard where the legistlature might cut that back to 5% or something like that because UT and A&M could no longer absorb the auto admits? Might have heard the wrong info? ?

If UT took my ill-prepared for college a$$, they should take anyone!! I would make a 2.0 during football season and then a 4.0 in the spring to bring it up...lol. I just couldn't believe that at the Bluff, the 50 or so kids in the top 10% all have 100+ GPA's...
