No need for it. Especially not if it's gonna be broken up into 2 divisions. I'd be ok with a 7A if it was gonna do away with making classifications split up into 2 divisions but that's the only way. There's already too many state champions.

I'm hoping something happens to address the large difference in the number of schools between the classifications in 6A down through 3A. Ids this the fix. Just going to wait and see. I Think the biggest factor will be the number of schools the UIL wants to put in the 7A classification. Everything will domino from there. But I don't want to see the larger classifications fall below 6 teams per district. 7 would be better, just not sure if that would be feasible.

I like the idea if a school is over the cap limit of (x) then they get moved to 7A but there are no playoffs or state champions. Basically making the ISD choose to build another school to lower numbers or dont participate in the post season.

I mentioned this on the 6A board and I think it’s worth mentioning here as well. If a Class 7A is created then it should be for the super campuses. IMO, that is around an enrollment of 3,000 give or take. This would make 7A at around 100 schools divided between 16 districts - or about 6 teams per district. Then for Class 6A and 5A, you would still keep them at around 250 schools each. This would still allow for 32 districts each, as well as promoting to 5A some of the larger 4A schools that are causing the enrollment disparities that we are seeing in the 4A level.

Need more schools in 4A not less. currently there are 245 in 6A and 251 in 5A. Then it drops to 181 in 4A. If the cap for 6A and 5A was 225 schools then there would be an average of 6.25 schools per District for 32 districts. Then you could divide that in two for D1 and 2. that should be enough to help 4A increase to an even footing.

I would argue some the disparities are larger in 5A thanks in part to Opt ups and what have you. When Cal was in 5A and playing in D2 in the playoffs, we were still playing schools that had close or at twice the enrollment we had where in districts in other parts of the state, they would end up in D1. I agree with Chino they shouldn't go down the 7A road unless it eliminates the split division thing at least 4A on up. It might be a harder fish to fry in 3A and below, but I don't think the participation numbers are as big a factor to begin with at many of those schools in the first place. If you have a 3A school with 300 enrollment vs another who has 200 enrollment , chances are their football participation numbers are similar. But like OCCNH notes... Opt outs should be out regardless of the path forward starting with the next realignment, save the most extreme cases. Unlike in the past thanks to the spilt division thing, football is the only thing that gets effected by the split division thing and if they remove it, then travel is more acceptable if you know your other sports and UIL activties can stay closer to home.

I mean in 6a right now you can have teams in D2 with nearly 5k kids playing a team with far less than half as many kids enrolled. IMO, that is just too big of difference.

There's no way to fix that by adding more classifications. It's only a handful of teams that have those ridiculous 4k+ enrollments.

I would suspect there are at least 100 of them now with 3000 or more. Move those all up into 7a and then bust 6a up into D1 & D2 predistrict just like the rest. Move the cutoff number down a little and move more 5a D1 schools into 6a D2 and it will help out both 5a and 6a IMO to a little more equality and fairness especially since 5a has more schools than any other.

Yep. And it's going to continue to grow.
The amount of growth in the Metro areas right now is just ridiculous, and it's not stopping anytime soon. 7A will happen sooner or later. Make 6A have pre split divisions like the rest of us have (something I always wished they had when we were up there), and just leave 7A with 1 Division for now.
People saying we have too many state champions now a days are ridiculous as well IMO. We have 12 state champions, with 1,361 schools as of last cutoff. Back when we had 1 state champion per class (for all classes) back in 1986/1987 (since this is the furthest back I can find so far), we had only 955 schools. The timing back then was right to add two champions for each class, and the time to add a Class 7A has definitely come.

Not every school is rich like Allen just because they are big lmao.
